I got the mailing from the "shadow" of the old Ski Chalet informing that the "Dilly in Chantilly" would be Oct. 10-13 this year! And a brochure on Skiing out West also arrived.
Time to think sliding!!!!

It's currently 50 degrees in Davis. Tonight's low is 45. That's only 13 degrees away from freezing!! Although fall hasn't officially arrived, I am really starting to get excited about this winter!!

It's currently 49* in Lost City, 52* earlier in Wardensville. My car had condensation and fog on the windows earlier when driving home at 11pm. In fact it was very eerily similar to winter out. The sudden drop in temps from the 80s earlier caused fog to rise from ponds and hay fields creating what appeared to be white snow in the fields far off in the distance. The condensation on grass along the road with a high reflection from full moonlight created the allusion of frozen ice or snow along the road. With the moon out in all it's glory I got the feeling this was mid winter with below 25*F temps out.

I think I started to go into a hypnotic trance of driving to get my board and leave for Timberline...

I was going to post this at the oilfight, but it seems better here- freeze coming to New England and upstate New York on Friday! It's getting C-L-O-S-E-R!!!!! grin

source: http://www.weather.com/newscenter/nationalforecast/index.html?from=hp_news

text: Breezy, cool conditions, following the passage of a Canadian cold front, will carry a touch of autumn into the northeastern U.S. tomorrow.

A freeze watch is already posted from northern Pennsylvania to Upstate New York and Northern New England. In fact, some locations will be nearing record lows including Caribou, Maine., Burlington, Vt., and Syracuse, N.Y.

During the day tomorrow, highs will be near to below mid-September expectations with readings ranging from the low 50s in northern Maine to the 80s in south-central Virginia.

A few forecasts: Burlington, 56; Boston, 66; Philadelphia and Norfolk, 78; Charleston, W. Va., 80.

It was in the low sixties with bright sunshine in the valley yesterday. The maple trees have already started to change colors.

This morning it was 26F at 10am amd 30F at 5pm on Mt. Washington.

Won't be long now!

We hit the upper 40s for the second time this month just a couple nights ago. I swear on the drive home tonight some of the green on the trees seemed to be yellowing ever so slightly. I might be delusional, just seems WAY too early (of course, fall came a month too late last year so maybe we're making up for that? I dunno).

My brother started school in Rapid City. He just moved up from Florida. He thinks he's ready for winter, he's got no idea what's comin' for him. Heh heh heh...

Looks like mana from heaven. I'll be at Snowshoe this weekend to get my place ready and go to a friend's wedding. Hope it is getting colder there....

Yeah, it definitely is. I spent this past Saturday stomping around in the Elk River, right down the road from the Shoe. At 8 in the morning it was 45 degrees outside and the water temp was a balmy 53 degrees. Did I mention I was wearing sandals and shorts, not waders? shocked shocked

I had a similar occurrence shortly after buying my condo, left DC in 75 degrees and sunny, flip flops, tank top and shorts. Got to Snowshoe and it was 28 and snowing. Front had moved in. I never ever go to the Shoe without at least Fall gear. Even in the summer.
