JohnL can vouch- we saw a "Cheney skis in jeans" bumper sticker at Wolf Creek and I spent the rest of the ski trip screaming it at the top of my lungs. Especially on the day I skied in blue jeans. \:o The Homer standing beside the quote is fantastic.

Yep. I'm surprised you haven't added "Cheney skis in jeans" to your tagline. I still owe you, Zach, and Brian some of those pix from that weekend. (Promptness is not one of my virtues.) Mebbe a trade of those pix for some pix of that gal in KC?

Since when are our vacation photos now up for ransom? \:\) I'd love to take some photos of that waittress but I have no idea how to politely ask a question like that.

Anyway... so it snowed in the Valley again? There's another reinforcing shot of cool air moving down from Canada. Should be here in KC in about two days (it's not particularly warm now- just spectacular late May weather. By far the best weather I've ever seen in KC. We've had five comfortable days in a row now, which is unheard of). I don't think it's as cool as the batch of air we got last week but you never know- as it grinds east it might whip up some snowflakes again in the Highlands. Worth keeping an eye on anyway.

I have seen snow in the Highlands every month of the year. Maybe this will be one of those years.

Weird snow event on Friday. Only a little bit of flakes mixed in with the rain here in Davis, and even on top of Canaan Heights which is usually one of the snowier locations.

However, I took a little trip to the Valley and even though it was mostly rain there, mixed with snow at times, there was snow to be seen on the upper halves of both the Timberline and Cannan slopes.

I continued down 32 and was surprised to see snow on the ground as I exited Canaan and headed into the Red Creek Valley. Snow on the ground at the Golden Anchor, and when I went down Laneville Road, there was snow all the way down to Red Creek itself.

Headed up to the Sods on a beautiful drive with snow laden branches drooping everywhere. I'd say there must have been at least 4" of heavy wet snow at the top. Must have been a cold pocket of air just to the south of the Valley as its unusual to see snow on the ground at about 2300' but not a couple miles away at 3200'. Took some pictures I'll try to post soon.

Ever actually seen snow in July or August? I know it's not uncommon to see snow (at least traces) every month from Sept-June, but I'm not sure about July-August. Never seen it myself (yet).

To see snow in June and September is extremely rare. I think that Canaan reported a trace of snow in early June sometime in the 40s, and there has been a trace of snow a few times in September -- but its extremely rare.

It depends on the definition of "snow." I have seen snowflakes fall in August, but nothing that did not melt once it hit the ground. I have never seen snow in July but would not be surprised to see flakes in the air.

As I said, I have seen it snow, not seen accumulation in July and August. Back during the 24 hours of Canaan races, there was one Sunday morning, early, when the top of Herz Mtn. had a trace of snow accumulation. That was in early June. Temps were in the upper 30s that morning at the base. I remember working as a volunteer and hearing the racers talk about the snow on top. The other times, and I can't remember the year, there was a freak cold snap in July when there were flurries. The same type of thing happened in late August one year back in the 70s. We were camping off the forest road up in the sods. It was so cold at night that the water in one of our dish pans froze over. I've only seen accumulating snows during summer months out west at elevation although I understand that it's common at Mt Washington.
