Per the Wisp website, they are hitting their beginner green trails as well as the snowtubing park with snow since 9am this morning. http://www.skiwisp.com/winter_snowmaking.htm

Also upon closer review at the Forrest Service High Res camera, Timberline and Canaan are indeed making snow. http://www.fsvisimages.com/images/photos-large/doso1large.jpg It looks like Canaan is making snow on the lower portion of the mountain with Timberline making snow on what appears to be midstation and Winterset.

They are blowing on the B slopes at Canaan and looks as though they are doing whiteout from mid at t-line. Since it takes them awhile to get guns going to the top, tomorrow should be full fledge on lightening (I hope).

i could be wrong, but the whitetail webcam shots seem to show snowguns being positioned strategically. perhaps to make snow tonight?

You might be onto something. I notice the 3rd & 4th pics showing snowmaking hoses spread out on the ground at 3:10pm

From talking to them in the past they usually like to let the ground cool for a few days before blowing. It'd be nice if they did get open but it usually seems like they have that flat green area open first so they can claim 5 trails and three lifts running.

ha! two years ago they opened the bunny hill day after thx. at this point i would take it. i will be teaching some friends to snowboard this year and can get them started early. i think it was $10 for a lift pass, if i remember right.

I can see a snow gun running at Whitetail. One of the cams is covered in water, so I assume that others are running too.

Don't see any snow at this point though.

Good to still see the trees between Silver Streak and White Lightning!

The T-Line representative I talked to last weekend at the National Ski Expo wasn't moved by my explanation of why I thought the trees should remain and how much I loved Upper Silver Streak.

JohnL, many of us agree that cutting those trees will not only eliminate a great run, Silver Streak, but also change the "character" of White Lightning. Did you get a response or just a blank Rasta Stare? I'll agree to tear silver streak up every chance i get and talk about how great it was all season.....any one want to help

SAVE SILVER STREAK!!

SeaRide, they were making snow on Upper Lightning yesterday when I got home. The guns ran all night. It got down to about 10 at the house so conditions were good for it.

now i see that whitetail has loaded the chairs on the high speed lift. forecasts for post-thanksgiving temperatures keep getting lower. anyone rumors out there if whitetail might try for another early opening?

Whitetail's targetted opening date is Dec 3. They will open earlier if weather permits. It's way too early. The first snowmaking at Whitetail was just a test of the system, not a serious attempt at making snow.

Jimmy,
You know this is one of my favorite runs. If T-Line takes out these trees to widen that slope it will ruin one of the best advanced runs on the mountain. The tightness of the run keeps most people out, which enables you to ski it without the fear of getting run over from behind!

Don't be afraid. The Fall Lion won't hurt you!!!
