| Resort Overview - reported by M. Scott Smith, DCSki Editor |
Roundtop Mountain Resort is located in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, due north of Baltimore, Maryland. Roundtop has been around for many years and continues to offer convenient skiing for folks in the Baltimore/D.C. area. Roundtop was one of the first ski resorts in the area to offer tubing, where skiers can shed their skis and slide down a hill in an inner tube. In 2008, Roundtop added a new covered Magic Carpet lift to its tubing park.
Like all resorts in the area, Roundtop is lit for night skiing. For snowboarders, Roundtop offers a half-pipe and a Snowboard Park. Roundtop offers 4- and 8-hour flex tickets.
Roundtop, Liberty, and Whitetail are now under the same management, after Snow Time, Inc. purchased Whitetail during the fall of 1999. Skier discount cards and season passes are transferable among the three resorts.
Roundtop offers 16 trails, served by 10 chairlifts. Some of Roundtop’s trails wind down the mountain, in contrast with straight-down slopes common at many Mid-Atlantic resorts.
Roundtop Mountain Resort changed its name from Ski Roundtop in 2010, recognizing its continuing adoption of year-round activities such as Roundtop Mountain Adventures.
| Summer Activities |
Roundtop Mountain Resort now offers paintball year-round. The paintball facilities, called “Revolution Paintball,” include five fields with varying features including a semi-wooded speedball court, two wooded fields with natural and man-made obstacles, a barrel maze, and an open tournament field. Three fields are lit for night play. Players must be over the age of 10.

In Praise of the Anti-Resorts (November 13, 2011)
There’s a special place in Jim Kenney’s heart for the “anti-resorts”: those standalone ski areas with no slopeside lodging and few, if any, resort trappings. In place of glitz, they unapologetically offer one common attribute: top-notch skiing. Jim Kenney takes a tour through some of his favorite anti-resorts.

October 7, 2006 at 1:02 pm Great little family hill close to DC and Baltimore. Doesn't have the bigger mountain feel that Whitetail offers, but it's been my experience that it's less crowded than Liberty or Whitetail and offers a friendlier atmosphere. Great area for beginners and kids. Skiing the way it used to be -- unhurried and enjoyable.

December 29, 2006 at 12:54 pm My boyfriend and I had never skiied before, so we wanted a smaller place to learn. This place was great for us! Because we went before Dec 22 all the packages (which included equipment, lift tickets, and an hour and a half class) were $29 and the place was really empty! We went on a Saturday night and had our first lesson by Curin--a great instructor with lots of patience. On the next day we had another class with Bob and Jackie, who were both upbeat, knowledgable, and very encouraging. The two classes were awesome--an hour and a half each and in both cases there were only 2 other "students." We got everything we were hoping for and more.

December 23, 2007 at 12:20 am I want to complement Roundtop on their website design. I was particularly impressed with their interactive trail map that showed clearly which trails were open when we were trying to decide where to go for a day trip on 12/21/07. Roundtop's website had far more useful information than I found at either the Liberty or Whitetail websites. While at Roundtop my daughter and I both took advantage of advance level lessons for $10, a pre-season special. Both of our classes lasted for 1 1/2 hours and our instructors, Rich (ski) and Steve (snowboard) were excellent. I was one of two in my class and my daughter was the only person in her class. Snow conditions were excellent!
