I received an email from Snowshoe today about the upcoming season, and 90 day countdown.

WooHoo!!! Summer is a bummer. We need Winter now!
Hi from Connie Lawn. Is everyone happy? There is terrific skiing in New Zealand now, and the price is right! Check out my reports from 4 years ago under colums.
Short of skiing, you can come and have a swim at our lake in Va. Yours, Connie
My first ski mag of the season just arrived: Powder Magazine.
and it is exactly one month to the start of snowmaking at Loveland (weather permitting of course)
It is getting closer

There are leaves turning color

on maple trees on the ridges on my drive to the valley this week. Hope it's not from the heat and dry

I wonder what the total total cost would be to go out for a weekend???
Hey all! I've been away from the boards for a while... I'm looking forward to the season starting
Hopefully, I'll be able to get a few days in this year. I'm thinking about getting over to Wintergreen...

About $240 for airfare out of National (unless someone runs a sale), $35/day for the rent car and $50-60/night for an early season cheap hotel in Silverthorne.
I'm guessing that they're shooting for an October 8 opening, and the 8th - 10th will be a real zoo. Opening weekend always is.
Also, remember that there will probably only be 1-2 blue trails open off of chair 1.
I gave up on opening weekends years ago. Back in the mid 90's, it was Keystone and Lovelenad trying to be the first to open.I was out one opening weekend and witnessed 6 collisions on the one open trail.
That's what happens when you put people that don't know what they're doing and don't know it, with people that don't know what they're doing and do know it, with people that do know what they're doing -- all on one trail - hundreds of them.
I spent more time looking uphill than downhill trying to avoid the "out of controllers."
I am aiming for Whitegrass on junkboards in Oct.
Having survived a few Killington opening days when young and stupid, I am in complete agreement with Bob.
Denis predicts big Snow for Canaan in Oct....HHmmmmmmm...can you narrow down the time frame??
About half the years, I make tracks in Oct. The remaining years, it's Nov. About 5-6 years ago the biggest single snowfall of the year (14") was in Oct. It was heavy and wet and I had several delays getting to the valley because the leaves were still on the trees and caught a lot of snow, leading to many broken branches on the road.
38 degrees this morning in Breckenridge -- it's getting closer.
...I had 39 degrees at my place on the valley floor on Thursday morning...
2010/2011 World Cup Skiing from Solden, Austria is on the NBC Universal Sports channel right now. I guess that's a sure sign of winter.
