Here is a puff piece that even the Colonel will like. I skied 7 Springs for the first time and found this to be a first class resort all the way! Let me list the pros and then the cons, well at least for my day on Sunday!

Pros:
Cheaper 8 hour pass than Massanutten. $52 instead of $64

The slopes remind me of a mini Whistler with it's wide open range atmosphere. Trails are merged together and you can ski anywhere.

The resort has 5 terrain parks and they are groomed and installed by a 3rd party company who knows how to set jumps up the right way. Unlike the NUT! These guys were out cleaning up the jumps and bumps all day and very friendly to talk to.

Plenty for a family to do here.

Great view.

I saw lots of sexy Ski Bunnies!

Cons:

Mountain full of people wearing Steelers jerseys.

I think that this will be my new local destination resort because they actually have things that are up to date within the last 20 years unlike some other resorts AKA the NUT!

I had a blast even though I had to listen to that Penciltucky Dutch accent all day from the locals!

I would make 7 Springs the top on your list of local resorts to visit if you have not been there before. It was a blast.

My dear Grose,
It is with a great deal of reluctance I respond to your email "7 Springs Doesn't Stink". Come on, give it up! Either be a productive member of DCSki or....
Your review of the day at the Springs had some good points, but you cheapened them by continuing your diatribe about Massanutten. Although sometimes helpful, a well written review of 7 Springs or any other resort does not demand comparison with another resort, especially snide comments about a particular other resort.

I have been skiing 7 Springs since 1976 and can remember the Poma list on North Face.

Living near Pittsburgh it is my home hill. The only complaint I have had with 7 Springs since 1976 was their grooming. I don't know if it's the type of snow guns they have, or the type of grooming equipment they use or simply the number of skiers that scrape the snow off the hill but I have never understood how the day after a good snowfall there can be boiler plate ice on portions of the slopes.

It seems their grooming machines just don't seem to be able to get under the surface ice and really grind it up. Maybe they just don;t groom enough. Anyone know how new/old their grooming machines are.

I also wich they would stop clear cutting the slopes more and more each year. We need more narrow advanced trails like Yodler on the back side.

7s has made great improvements in the off slope product over the years. It has been around for years and has been adapting off and on. Sure there were times when 7s was behind the curve but the effort seems to be there now. I too have become a fan again.

Penciltucky Dutch accent's and Steelers jerseys are part of the charm. Right up there with IC light!

As for resort bashing. That what this forum is for!! Bash on!

My parents and grandparents have Penciltucky Dutch accents (but not Steeler's jerseys). Must be why I never noticed it before blush

Well Jamie,

I agree! 7 Springs is where my wife and kids learned to ski, and holds a dear place in our hearts. The wife needed serious work to get her to try it and I met a great guy here that pointed me to a fellow instructor of his that could help. Thus, a monster was born. Several years later she cannot get enough of it, and the kids are hooked as well. For the mid atlantic there is nothing better then ending the day on the deck of the Foggy Goggle with an ice cold beer. You were spot on with your assessment of the place with one major exception..............

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH OF THE BLACK AND GOLD! laugh

What the heck is a Penciltucky Dutch accent? 'Burghers have a unique accent and lexicon but there is nothing in it that resembles Kentucky or the Pennsylvania Dutch.

The steelers jerseys are part of the resort(Go Redskins!!!), but I agree about the grooming comment, the last time that we were there they briefly stopped everyone at the top of the polar lift to bring the groomers across to the north face (it was -10 degrees, and almost 10 PM, so it wasn't crowded) and they were not what I was expecting, they looked pretty old and like said earlier don't seem to go very deep. Granted they didn't let us get anywhere near the groomers so these observations were from about 15-20 yards away.

I was at 7 Springs for the first time over the weekend. On Sat. I was a little disoriented not knowing where I was and all the merging trails, but Sunday was much better. We found the skiers left side of the mountain where the trails were longer. All in all it was very nice. The people were nice, employees and guests, the facilities were wonderful. Hey the bathroom didn't have an inch of standing water. What else could you ask for? It was also Telepalooza, which they went all out for. Some other weekend celebration/fest was going on too. Subaru was there with swag and free coffee.

Wish we coulda made it up but we already take too many vake days to ski n'at. We watched the game from the beergarden in Timbers surrounded by Ravens fans and Stillers haters. If anyone else was innair and seen da couple wearin #7 jerseys in the back, that was us.

(We left at halftime for friendlier confines back @ Canaan's lounge.)

(Sorry for threadjack but its too much fun to get Picksburghese on the 7S thread doggin the Stillers jerseys)

I can't believe that I try to post a positive review of a slope and make a joke of my former post and the Colonel takes it way too personal. I was trying to be lighthearted about my previous post. So take a chill colonel or......

I would like to tell everyone that the penciltucky dutch and the steelers jersey comments were meant to be funny. Of course they will wear a jersey if their hometown team is in the super bowl. The jersey's were worn all in fun and they didn't bother me one bit. Again, meant to be light hearted. Although I enjoyed the postings in the penciltucky native tongue, Very funny!

I had a blast at the mountain and wished I had some more time to explore around, but I was buying some K2 Brewskis from a person I met on another ski site and it slowed my day down quite a bit.

As far as my posting about resorts and not comparing them to others, The Colonel is just going to have to deal with it. You have to compare resorts that are within driving range of each other. How else would you know what they offer and what might be a better resort for you? So if anyone is offended by me stating my opinion on how a resort stacks up in my mind compared to another resort, please let me know. Last time I checked you have to compare apples to apples. Maybe the colonel would prefer I compare a resort with say a car dealership or something? I don't know what his deal is. He is taking things way too seriously. Maybe he has some sort of financial deal with Massanutten for this website or something? I guess I really get under his skin for some reason when I talk about "THE NUT". I don't think I trashed the nut at all when comparing 7 springs to it. Basically I am just trying to prove some points that 7 springs offers better skiing and at a cheaper price with better terrain parks and crews, and better rental equipment. Why would that be a huge issue with him? Again, take a chill colonel!

By the way. How many days of the week do you ski colonel? Just a question I often wondered.

I dont think Ive ever heard anyone say anything good about those besides the hipster pbr novelty factor.

Take 'em up to Bromley, VT (ski resort founded by Fred Pabst) and give 'em a ride!

Jamie, My post was in fun too but we do speak a distinct Pittsburghese. Pennsylvania Dutch country is really in the eastern part of the state. We Western PA folks guard our heritage and culture vigorously so poke fun all you want just keep the geography right.

Don't worry JamieGrose79 - it will all be over soon. By now Scott has converted the ip addresses you have used to access this site to a set of definitive GEOCODEs for targetting. Your remaining hours as a DC Ski maverick are numbered.

Tactical teams have probably already been dispatched to your most likely current locations. Have you noticed any strange vehicles parked near your home or office today? At the right moment they will descend on you and begin the assimilation process. Don't worry, I understand all memories of pain and suffering are erased once you have been fully rehabilitated. Soon you will be a happy and helpful member of the DCSki community whether you like it or not.

The assimilation process has been refined and is now nearly 100% effective. Witness the notorious Mr. FishnSki. For years he tried to avoid being homogenized by the community. He fled from user name to user name and even hid atop a remote mountaintop not far from Canaan Valley (until his oversized statue gave him away to our spy satellites). Finally "Andy" was tracked down on a beach down south and drugged into submission. Now by his own admission, Andy "FishnSki" has changed from the menace to society he once represented, to the the happier and tamer menace who posts happy weather reports on occasion.

Of course, not everyone can be assimilated. In these cases, the perpetrators are simply "disappeared". Check out the archives of DCSki for the likes of "Fred" , "Rich", and most recently "Crush". Scott - if that's his real name - even sends out fake "suicide" notes to cover his tracks:

"I'm out...have nothing, will have nothing, to say about it."...Rich

"I'm turning my one star I have left in, bring on almost heaven...gat I don't know what that means but it sounds like an alternative. I am done goodbye...yeah I know good ridins."... Fred

"i'm done i remove myself because i'm becoming an [censored] here and i'm not sure why... i'm resetting my password to a random one that i won't remember so i can't log in anymore - goodbye." ... Crush

"I guess I should take a skiers anger managment class, so I can learn to use less hurtful words like stinks. Have a great day people. Donate to my charity marathon if you want. If not oh well. I think this will be my last post on this board anyway, good luck getting quality info on any resort I go to now." - oops, that was you - have they gotten to you already???? grin

Only one perp - so notorious he is only referenced by the initials "MM" - left no parting shot. We believe only Jimmy Hoffa knows his true fate.

Good luck, nice to have known you, welcome back soon.

And for the record, I called no one a jagoff. I only noted a coincidence.

Right now I am loving the Brewskis. They have got to be one of the best twins I have ridden that set an edge without chattering like no ones bizz. I have had a couple comments from skiers who think they know all there is to know about ski setups. At Liberty I had an instructor ask me why I am trying to ski powder skis on groomers. Then he told me not to hurt myself. What a jerk. I told him they were a semi rocker and I had heard that they were better for all mountain than my Fujatie 07-08 models. I gave em a shot and I love them. I have been rippin it up on them for the past 3 weeks. Love em big time.

You are completely wrong Bushwacker. You might wanna ride em first before you tell people how they ski. I set and edge really hard in these. They aren't as good as a carving ski for the east coast ice. My buddy just dropped some Volkl's because he doesn't like to just have carving skis either. I keep right up with his carving/powder Dynastars. I love the freedom to switch from powder to groomer to some hard pack on these anyday. They rock and the graphics are pimpin.

My Bad. I looked at your post too quickly and read it the wrong way. I didn't mean to come off like an butthead. You were right about the brewskis except that I am loving them on the hard stuff as well. Great ski all around. My bad for being a jerk. Hope you understand. If you don't I understand why you would accept my apology, I was a tool.
