Anyone else not planning on joining the USMC marathon frenzy?
I usually make an early appearance at Ski Center then wobble off to bike or something.
comprex, I'm going and agree early is better then late for best treasure. Got to check schedules of my kids though, hope to make some boot purchases for them and must bring them along. Maybe we should arbitrarily pick a time and spot for those interested in a coffee+lies rendezvous, but not before allowing for a few hours of frenetic swapdiving.
The host patrol includes some good friends of DCSki.
For all: Ski Center ski swap is Oct 28, 9am-3pm, details:

Is the swap setup when they first open or is it populated throughout the day - it looks like people can bring stuff in starting at 9am? As opposed to say the ski expo thats empty on Friday and Saturday and only builds up throughout the weekend.
Thanks.
In past years it's been pretty lively 9:30 am to 1pm then dies down before the real cheapskate vultures swoop down 3:30 ish.
By lively do you mean they have a ton of gear there? My biggest complaint about swaps is normally its barren when the place first opens.
The quality can vary, but the quantity will not disappoint. Check out the photos in Ski Center link of past swaps.
Hopefully no one will get mad, but this topic seems to belong in another DCSki forum, not the "Welcome New One to DCSki forum". Any way to move it?
The Colonel
You really think so? I thought of it more as a 'virtual' icebreaker for real-world meetup.
<shrug> I don't mind either way; this forum struck me as more social.
I'll ride over there early. I'm going to try selling a ladies Obermeyer shell that never quite fit me. :D. Maybe I can find a few other items that I'm willing to part with. Hopefully I will come home with less stuff than I take there!
What is the name of the coffee shop on Mass Ave right next to the swap lot? Want to meet at its front door around 1130? I might not be the best company, could be busy with kids and seeking eqmt with them. I'll be wearing a DCSki ball cap (not too noticeable) and the pea green shell shown in first pic of this thread:

I'll probably be there @ noon.
Stupid question and hard to tell from the pics, but is this a dog friendly layout? Wife and I still have our 5 month old pup and while he's happy staying home he loves to get out. I thought I remembered a lot of people walking dogs around the neighborhood but its my first time to the swap.
The coffee shop is Starbucks.
I'll be wearing a Park City Big Dumps tshirt and Lange socks.
Dog friendly to a point, there are a lot of places to go walking thereafter and people bring dogs to the 'bucks all the time.
There will be a LOT of people though.
Eh, looks like its going to be tough getting there from Alexandria tomorrow - tons of road and bridge closures for the Marine Corps Marathon. They said 35,000 plus expected and the rolling road closures.
Well found our way there all the way around the Beltway so no traffic problems at all actually.
Ended up spending 3x my budget - not surprising - on an almost new set of Rossignol Z9ti 175s. I went inside to check them out and new they were on sale for $700. The guy that fit me for my boots last season was there and said they are a great ski for the price and shape they are in and will be perfect for East and West Coast skiing.
Now, where's that snow!
Good going dc, glad the drive was worth it. I got some goodies for two of my children. Sorry missed meeting up with any of you. I was pretty busy scrounging for stuff.
Thanks to all that showed to sell AND buy! Turn out was pretty decent at the swap and it was good to see Jim Kenney in person once again. Hope all got what they needed (and maybe a bit more!). I got new-to-him boots, skis and a new (really!) bag for my son. Wife and I have so much gear, we sold some of that rather than buy more.
Cheers and think snow!
Hi Jim C., it was a pleasure doing business with you today. You patrolers from Liberty run the best swap in town (with a little help from Ski Center)! My son is really stoked about his new-to-him Stockli Stormrider skis.
Thanks, Jim K.
JimK, I didn't see your jacket or RodSmith there; I remember several people fondling the red Stormie ATs and at least one pair of brown Stormrider Frys?
Something came up that I couldn't get out of. Sorry I missed you all. Are there anymore swaps coming up? I need an old junk snowboard for a project I'm working on.
I have the DC expo on Nov 9,10,11; Ski Haus Glen Burnie on Nov. 10th and Ski Chalet Arlington on Nov. 17th marked.
I don't know when or if Ski Chalet Chantilly is going to have anything.
Edit: You planning on junkboarding too?
Thanks. You mean like on sand dunes? No, I'm gonna put wheels on it.
I saw that! I'm lookinhg for two old snowboards now.

AHA!, from
ski liberty we find out that Ski Chalet Chantilly's event is on 11/10 and 11/11, same days as the Expo, not surprising. Crazy lack of advertising, what?
Comprex,
Why two snowboards to make junk skis? If I read article correctly you only need one junk board to make a pair of junk skis. Hmm, maybe you need two pairs.

And the two are less than a half mile apart.
Colonel, I think Rod Smith wants two snowboards because he has two different projects to use them for.
dcmidnight, yes, that's true, and it is a very interesting little navigational maze to get from one to the other.
An accurate map or a GPS unit with a good display is extremely useful. IMO.
