Looks like th Springs may be open next weekend. Matt....see you Sunday!!
Last night the 7 Springs website had a blurb that said slopes would open Dec 8 - next Friday. If the weather forecast turns out to be correct they should be in awesome shape by then.
Sunday? I'm starting Friday
Call me. We're covering for the weekend staff while they clinic, but should be free by 2 if not earlier.
If the weather does indeed hold out, Tim and I will most likely be there next weekend too!
I anticipate the whole frontside will be open with maybe TNF slope as well.
Interesting....weatherbug.com says it is 32 degrees at the top and the guns look like they are still cranking. Matt, if I can get out of a conference I am supposed to be at next Friday I will see you then.
Was there more snow on the ground when I looked at the webcams this morning? It's still "snowing" but is it "sticking"??
whats up rod!
7S is unleashing their guns. I have been refreshing the webcams all day and they are really going off.
Hey, Tim! Well it's a start. At 36 and rain soaked ground, pretty marginal snowmaking conditions, but it should improve once the sun goes down. Looks good for next weekend. I just was so stoked to see the golfer .gif replaced by a skier when I checked the webcam page this morning, so I knew DCSki would be abuzz.

It seems that 7 Springs also has a weather site on Weather Underground, which is updated about every 5 seconds or so. I don't know if it's more accurate than Weather Bug, but it seems to at least be more accurate than what the SPrings posts on the 7 Springs website.
Here's the URL:

Matt,
Call me. You hear about the new bar "rule"????

Why is timberline only blowing on the lower mountain??? and cannan didnt blow at all yet???

now timberline is top to bottom - but canaan has yet to blow at all?????? whats up with that???
Interesting. This morning the guns are cranking on Wagner and the trails but no Stowe. Alpine takes a lot of water a pressure to make snow. I guess the new owners have dictated that they want the park open early. In the past they have concentrated on the slopes before the park seems to have changed this year.
I was @ 7S on Saturday afternoon and noticed they were actually blowing snow on Alpine and not on the new terrain park. Just curious, why does it take more water pressure to blow snow on Alpine?
It is a larger slope that has more guns on it. It takes more snow to cover Alpine than most of the others on the front. Just as an FYI the new park and pipe are going to be on Alpine. It is typically the last slope that they open as it was one of the least used. It really seems as if they are going to cater to the park and pipe crowd.

CV was making snow Saturday, looked to me they had concentrated on the beginners A-lift??? area. I left Sunday around 11:00 am and the guns were off. Wisp guns were off as well Sunday. I'd expect they're fired back up by now .
T-line seems to blowing a lot of white stuff. It appears from doso1 that Sally is getting some snow as well as WL.
Saw that, looked like smoke in the air on twister/dewdrop also.
I just got an e-snow report and it stated that only the terrain parks were getting attention
Great for the park rats.
The urbanization of mountain sports, don't you just love it. Cut down the best glades on the hill and build a super park, welcome to the future.
Really??? From the webcams it looks like they are pummeling everything in sight. Some of the slopes look like they are coming along quite nicely.
Yes, it looks like the frontside is coming along fine. I guess the marketing folks wanted to emphasize the terrain parks.
Most likely. This being their first year with this new park they probably want to come in with a bang. I'm thinking that since they have new owners they want to start this season out fairly strong and get people talking.

7S typically blows on Wagner bowl and the beginer slopes off the 6 pack first. Then Tyrol and Avalanche, and TNFS. I guess they are starting the park early this season. Works for me. At the rate they are going opening weekend will be really good.
It would be fun to get in a few turns and then head over to the foggy goggle at the end of the day.

Happy Birthday!!!
I know its not a slope but this begs to be ripped!
Yay!
What a nice bday gift. The best ever.
Ok. so maybe 2 feet would be better, but this is pretty good.
Queen,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I will be in the Goggle late Saturday and skiing Sunday. I am also going up Friday to stow all of my gear. Not sure if they will be open (I am hearing a Saturday opening) but if they are I will make a few turns on Friday.
Looks like they are blowing on Tyrol and Avalanche now!
I'm still being told Friday. We have to open then to handle the clinic situation I told you about, otherwise it will be a nightmare. We'll see...
Just got this:
Great news!!! We are opening for skiing this friday, December 8th from 9am-6pm with 7-9 slopes and trails serviced by 3 chairlifts and 2 surface lifts on the front face only.
Anyone want to meet up to ski for a few hours on Sunday then?

Should be able to. Gonna try and get some others from that "other site" up there some time soon also. You will have to figure out who I am over there, I am not outing myself.

THANKS! There is no better birthday present than the ski slopes opening and the opportunity to get some first turns in!!!!
There is already some movement toward a meeting later this season from those folks at that other site:
7 Springs Epic gathering.
....and a call to meet up over the Christmas week:
Pennsylvania PolkaI might be able to make this Sunday. Meet at the google around 9AM?
SQOTS and I will be there LHC.
Goggle at 9 is going to be a challenge for me, gotta get my team situated. Goggle deck around 11? Look for me, I will be on a pair of Bro's with a cross on my back.

Canaan Valley usually doesn't open until just before Christmas week. Unfortunately, they have less capacity to make snow than most of the commerical, real estate supported resorts. The type of snowmaking infrastructure in place at Snowshoe, Wisp, 7Springs, and increasingly Timberline, is made possible by the revenue from property sales. CV is a state park and, depending upon your point of view, is either blessedly free of development or underutilized and therefore unable to "compete" because of the very limited captial improvement funds available. Or both. As such, their snowmaking is more limited and it will take longer to get much of the mountain open.

Agreed, which was why I thought it was very strange that they originally had 12/1 as the projected opening date.

Enjoy your day, Queen.

Hahah, I was about to post the same thing.
Timberline is blowing nicely. I was up there today and took a few snapshots. you can see them on Flickr here:
Timberline Snowmaking 12/5/2006 Also, Canaan was blowing snow today from what I could see but I didn't get any photos.
Crush,
I too was going to say I would rather be where you are when it comes to skiing! I note that Accuweather is calling for several snowfalls and way below temps for Park City over the next 15 days.
ENJOY,
The Colonel
I just checked Massanutten's website. They plan on openning Dec. 8
If I read their website correctly, they are making snow on Diamond Jim. Can any Massanutten experts tell me if they typically have Paradice or Diamond Jim open on opening day?
Anyway if Diamond Jim is open then I plan to be there next Monday or Tuesday. Anyone else planning on being there one of those 2 days?
it looks like they have moved over under the main lift and have the bottom half of a trail covered + that beginer area and that is it.......what a difference from some of the other resorts - in the same pic below - look at the mounds on timberline

wgo, I stopped by Mass. Sunday to pick up a season pass for my son but everything was closed except for the store. Didn't see any signs of snowmaking then. Going back today. I'll let you know tonight how things look. Usually they only have Southern Comfort open at the beginning of the season. If diamond jim is open that would be great. I noticed on the website that geranamo(spelling) is suppose to be open too.
Crush .. you are just wicked! It's not nice to tease all these nice people. [sigh] wish I were there!
I stopped by Mass. to pick up a season pass for my son today. I was just there Sunday but today was much different. They've really been making snow the last couple of days. Southern Comfort, Geronimo, Tub Park and the Terrain Park all had snow. I asked about Diamond Jim and was told they would decide Friday probably; it depends on the weather the next couple nights and how much snow they can blow.
Thanks for the info! Looking forward to kicking off the season soon.
