The “Fire on the Mountain” Chili Cookoff will return to West Virginia’s Snowshoe Mountain Resort on Saturday, July 15 as over 60 cooks compete for a chance to win $1,000. The winner will represent Snowshoe Mountain at the world Chili Cookoff Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cookoff will be the highlight of an event-filled weekend, which will begin on Friday night with a West Virginia Public Radio recording of the nationally distributed “Mountain Stage,” featuring Larry Gross. Jimmy Dale Gilmore, John Wesley Harding and others will perform Texas swing from the Skidder Slope stage.

The cookoff will take place on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m. Thousands of spectators are expected, and admission is free. Meanwhile, over 30 crafters from throughout the region will put on a craft show. Following the cookoff, a mountaintop fireworks display will take place at 9:30 p.m.

“This event showcases what Snowshoe Mountain is all about in the summer time,” said Bruce Pittet, Snowshoe’s General Manager.
