I am planning a group trip this winter and am having a difficult time locating a lodge. I am looking at a group of 20 plus and am wondering if anybody knows of lodge style rentals that would accomodate a large group of people with a large area that we could enterain everybody and attaching rooms where people could sleep. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! I am looking at MD, VA, PA, NJ, WV, and NY

I can tell you that there are some fairly large rental chalets in the Canaan Valley/Timberline area. One company is Mountain Top Realty. Also, Timberline Realty rents chalets. Many are right there next to or near the slopes of the Timberline ski resort. Hopefully, they can help...

You might want to take a look at Camp 4 accommodations at Snowshoe. Each of these townhouses has 3 bedrooms plus den plus pullout sofa .. accordingly, 3 condos should handle your group nicely depending on sleeping partners.

Also .. you might want to contact Snowshoe WV directly as they have some pretty good plans for groups with reduced rate lift passes, availability of meeting rooms etc. I understand Seven Springs PA has similar offers as does Wisp MD.

If contacted early enough in the season, most of the bigger resorts are very accommodating and offer discounts (generally 10% sometimes 20%) depending on the size of the group.

There are plenty of rental vacation houses at Deep Creek Lake - Wisp Ski area. Last winter, I have rented a house for 12 ppl. There are too many resort rentals to choose from. You can choose whatever size from small cottage to a huge mansion. Not that many slopeside (ski in/out) lodges out there though.

Canaan Valley Lodge, the hotel, has rooms that they let larger groups use while staying at the Lodge. They also rent cabins.

You could probably find something suitable at many of the ski areas in the states you are looking at. But I can second the recommendation about Wisp and Raily Mtn Lake Vacations at: http://rentals.deepcreek.com/
If you look through the rental home inventory they offer you will see that some of the places sleep as many as 30 and have their own indoor pool. Some of these monster homes around Wisp Ski Area/Deep Creek Lake in Maryland definitely qualify as private "lodges".
