Hello from Connie Lawn. I am heartsick about the Colorado and New Mexico wild fires. I asked Jennnifer Rudolph of Colorado Ski Country, to send us an update. This is what she wrote:
There are two fires burning in Colorado, but neither of them are near any ski resorts. The High Park Fire is just west of Ft. Collins and the closest ski area is 60 miles away. The Springer Fire is west of Colorado Springs and, while still concerning, is much smaller than the High Park Fire. The closest ski resort to the Springer Fire is more than 100 miles away.

Even though there aren't any fires on ski resort land, ski area officials are taking precautions and working closely with the Forest Service on restrictions and bans. Many resort and mountain communities have cancelled fireworks displays as an added precaution.

As of today, no ski resorts are directly impacted by wildfire and all resorts with summer operations are open for summer business. However, resorts are watching the fires closely and are prepared with emergency plans in place, communicating with guests about the serious conditions and working with the USFS and related agencies to mitigate any fire threat.



As an added precaution the following resorts/resort towns have canceled their fireworks display plans:

Steamboat Springs/Steamboat Resort/Howelsen Hill

Silverton

Salida/Monarch

Telluride

Powderhorn (resort not participating, Mesa is still having their display)

Aspen

Copper

Sunlight/Glenwood Springs



Arapahoe Basin and Echo Mountain are not, nor were they ever, planning to have fireworks displays.
