Looks like the mtns may get some snowfall Sunday night into Monday. Any chance anything will stick? Where's Andy?

I just got my computer back from the
Doctor and was plugging it in while you were taking care of my light work...My Man!...saw this 4 or 5 days ago and it looked huge at 1st...then it looked like it would just zoom up the coast passing too far out for too much of a threat to the Alpps but the latest model runs are bringing it back...stay tuned...meanwhile..im gone fishing!

That would be the worst or best case scenario(if u prefer)..the ground is really warm so a whole lot more will fall than stick. I think it will look pretty intense for awhile though!

PS..reading the latest NWS disc they only put 4.5 inches up at SS...I'm going for a foot at the Summit of MPC!

The models are showing some crazy amounts for the mtns. of PA. Hopefully, the big snow fall totals move further south.

The bottom of Weiss at CVR looks to still have some base for Denis. smile CVR Webcam

This storm is getting very interesting...I wonder if what I am seeing set up on the infrared Sat is the beginning of the "perfect late april storm"??...here is a quote from mr weather..

Joe Bastardi ‏ @BigJoeBastard
Historic, power outing, branch snapping snowstorm still on track from NWVA to western New York, Ontario. Latest, and greatest since 1928 wpa

PAS...biggest storm potential for western PA since 1928...did ya catch that SCWVA?

The Nam Model seems to "Hype" a storm like someone from Accuweather..the Snow totals from the Nam match your map u posted David..
http://wxcaster.com/gis-snow-overlays2-10to1.php3?STATIONID=PBZ

This storm is a little different from your normal Neaster..not only does it go up the coast but it seems to want to "hook" back west over northern PA and then up which is what makes it so interesting..the hook could bring a more sustained snow and cold event than normal...where was this storm when we needed it back in march???

What are the probability for snow for Hardy and Hampshire County WV? That is areas greater than 800' elevation?

Im thinking that u might see some wet snow mixed with the rain at that elevation..please let me know if you get more than that. Take off from work Monday and head up to the sods or something and post some pics!!

Currently my elevation here is 1600'. Wardensville is 900' and such. I'm wondering what to expect.

So is NWS...here is a quote..

"So the $64,000 question is how much snow. So many factors are going
to go into accumulations. How soon will everything change over to
snow, will it change to all snow. The rainfall before the snow, the
warm late April ground. Surface temperatures on Monday. Taking into account
all of these factors, felt a good way to handle accumulations was
to go with about half of what model output is providing. Still
believe that the greatest accumulations will be most likely over
the highest elevations."

I'm sticking to my 12 inches above 4000' predict made yest.. that actually is laying on the ground when the last flake falls...going to seem like much more with all the snow coming down and if the temp can get low enough we could see a little more than that due to the fluff factor...thats my paygrade pick...

PS..reading a quote from a diary by someone in Canaan Valley made on April 28th,1928..
"Enormous spring snowstorm buries area under 3 feet of snow;floods follow....DAMAGE!!

At least all rain where the trees and power lines will go down...at 540pm the temp is about 35 at 4000' to 33 at the top of SS (4800')...wont be too long to see the ist flakes at the tippy tops..

PS...Just saw the 1st flakes up at the shoe...

You can learn something from every storm..the only amount that I can see that even came close to the hype was about 14 inches up at laurel mtn 60 miles north of Canaan.
Putting that amount into perspective, it is still a rare event as we are only a week away from May!

Well I drank the Kool Aid. I'm in CV lodge right now and will climb and ski something early tomorrow. There is no more than 3" anywhere in the valley. Perhaps at 4000 ft. There will be more, and then there is drifting. I am not disappointed. I'm retired. And, if you don't go fishing you don't catch fish.

You gotta get ur line wet if ya want some fish..

If you caught fish every time it would be called..Catching...not Fishing..

Looks like laurel ridge state park would be a better "fishing" spot that the valley this time...
..as the storm hooked west over PA the ridges up there stole the brunt of the moisture and left the valley to work with its elevation to soak up the rest......I thought the storm was going to linger there for awhile and merge with the upper low but it just hooked and booked...thats weather!....at least thats what I think happened..

Bet the tracks I saw on the Canaan Valley ski cam were from Denis!

The Canaan camera moves about from view to view.
By the way, this site, highcountrywebcams.com is a great place to view webcams in WV, VA and NC. Also has a sister site for Beach Cams.

I did take the junk boards and they were the right tool. Chip and Robbie were on EVO XC skis and did as well as I, they have my admiration. I skied only the lower open slope at Whitegrass, where the best snow was, chip, Robbie and Paul went all the way to the top of Weiss Knob. It surely would have been turning to glop by the time I could get there, so I followed one of my rules, never leave good snow to find good snow. Skiing on natural snow in WV at this date seems remarkable enough that I am posting it on it's own thread. Look there for a TR.
