So... does anyone want to weigh in on the forecast for this coming Monday and Tuesday? It looks like we could finally be due for a powder day in CV. With the way this winter is looking, I'm thinking it might be worth taking a vacation day on Tuesday to get some freshies
I would go in a heartbeat. Wednesday seem to be awesome. Hopefully T-line will open up a few more trails.
I am no weather expert but seem like this cold might be short-lived. The long-range forecast seem pretty grim this season -- no sign of NAO turning negative but I learn that we can't trust long-range forecast, can we?
Brett anderson's long range forecast for Jan says "mild and unseasonably warm" for the latter part of Jan.

NWS's 3 month outlook doesn't look great either..

Bret Anderson is a ...How can I say this on DCSKI?...A Global Warming Slut?
These two stations are in the area from where we draw the cold we need for the intense Cold snaps..
Eureka, Nunavut
-33 °F
Light Snow
Resolute, Nunavut
-27 °F
Low Drifting Snow
Wind is not the best producer of Powder but The High country Alpps should get 10 inches Give or take of Sweetness out of this.... I'm hoping that will change for the better with the next model run..stay tuned!

I just noticed what NWS Charleston,WV has only a six inch predict...That would be a sorry Event..I don't believe that, but They are the pros!
NWS..
The Lowlands could see 2 to 4
inches with the higher terrain in excess of one half a foot of new
snow.

Oh come on... let's dream big! Considering how warm the Great Lakes are with all the warm weather the past month, I feel like this could be a BIG dump!
Let's shoot for at least 14"

I have a little flexibility with days I can take off. What day looks like its going to be the best?
It's a great way to start the year - any which way you cut (especially with the slow-starting ski season)
Just waiting for the storms... in Canaan Valley.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all you guys and gals!

Missed this one. In Chicago with a 3month old grand daughter. Great fun. Driving yesterday through northern IN in lake effect blizzard was not fun.
Crazy cold today. The snow was pretty sweet though...
Did you venture out beyond Silver Streak?
Upper Thunder?
Upper Thunder?
Thunder had awfully thin cover. I didn't venture over that far.
I actually got my ticket cut in the parking lot around lunchtime

Hmm... conditions were primo at Canaan today..
Woke up to 8 degrees and a foot of snow at Canaan Heights

I was surprised that it kept dumping all day - wind chill was easily below zero though..

Ski patrollers shack looking cozy

Fresh tracks in the meadows all day!

Unfortunately, I did end with one nasty core shot after chasing powder all day...
All in all a vacation day well spent!

frickin awesome pow but dang that was cold
Yep. It was cold. Made it to Timberline this morning and just did some laps on WL. The top third was nice until you hit the blowers. Snow turned into tooth paste and I regretted not bringing my longer, wider skis. I saw some tracks entering The Drop. Maybe thats where David got caught?

A few from Timberline yesterday. It was VERY cold so I took all 4 at the same time from the lift and didn't take any more. Not a whole lot to see anyway. Conditions were often times whiteoutish, with a combination of natural snowfall and the tons of snowmaking going on. They definitely were giving it everything they had to make as much snow as possible. Did I mention it was chilly?
