Dawn Patrol - climb it and ski it. The idea is to be on your way up before the sun rises. They do it in Utah and many other places, http://straightchuter.com/ . Why not Whitegrass? I had to leave my posse of friends to meet another friend at noon at Whitetail so I slapped skins on my skis and started up at 7:00 on 1/13. I was rewarded with one perfect run of about 600 vertical feet in cold, light, fluffy, deep powder. UT powder in WV. All I needed to do was venture off the open slope just a bit and the goods were there. I love the combined socializing and sport of skiing with good friends and good skiers, but powder in the backcountry calls me like a siren's song. I would trade a thousand or more turns on groomed slopes for one turn in a silent powder filled glade that I had climbed to ski.

It is as good as it gets at Whitegrass right now.

That's a really great idea. We should organize that several times a year. Ski/ photo - Bike / photo - Hike / photo etc...
Count me in.
