Try looking up at vrbo.com, they might have something for you.

Also, I stayed at this place

The rooms are quite nice -- better than most cheap chain motels. That 's probably the cheapest motel I found in the area, it 's about 20 minute drive to Mountain Top (if the road condition is decent). But if you are staying several days, I would recommend trying to pay a bit more, I think that a little bit above $1,000 will allow you to get lodging up there it 's worth not having to drive up and down, but act fast!

There are some condos near Cass on Rt 66, check vrbo.com. Probably a 25 minute drive.

Also check the Hermitage Motel in Bartow WV:

It's a 45 minute drive to SS from there.

Try the cabins at Cabins, WV, south of Petersburg, on the Potomac, and within easy reach of Canaan and Snowshoe.

There used to be some good information on this site, but I've completely forgotten it. I'll answer with what I can remember...

I thought it was the Hermitage that closed? There was some hotel I think near Bartow that I had enjoyed staying at, but had closed up. Obviously call to check.

We've stayed at the Boyer motel, which is dirt cheap, but probably too spartan/country to do again.

On the other side of Snowshoe, we have stayed at the Irish Inn (Boar's head?), which was fine, had great food and drink, but was over $100 a night.

Probably my best recommendation would be the Marlinton Motor Inn, which is about 20 minutes away, cheap and clean. Google it.

Note, when I go to Snowshoe I'm usually looking for the cheapest clean accomodations possible, as I'm hitting first chair in the morning, and hanging out in the village in the evening, using the room only for sleeping. With five people, you may be better served renting a 2 bedroom condo or something.

I've stayed at Elk River Touring Center in the past. The have cabins and rooms. I believe lodging includes breakfast. There is a resturant and a pub onsite. It's may be 5 minutes to the base on Snowshoe. Great people, plus you can do some XC skiing while you're there.

I believe the Hermitage changed ownership, but it's definitely open. In fact, the restaurant is now open as well.
