Ill stick with the rt55 around seneca rocks route myself \:\) speaking of rocks, i have to go take a belaying test today at the indoor gym in MD. belay on!

Well its begun!...looks like the temps at 3750' up at pointy Knob stand at 28 with a reading of 31 down at Wvrocks camp at 2800'...I'm guessing its snow at this point...wish we could get some 1st hand reports!...be interesting to see how long the Alpps can hold on to the below freezing temps before the warm surge wins out. A good ice/snow coating will help preserve the blown snow on the slopes till the cold air blasts in sometime sun morn....Answer the question Jerk!!(John Macinroe the tennis player)..U going to make me look up belaying Crunchy?

Here at Northwoods I'm showing 29.8 degrees. I don't have a wind gauge but it's blowing like a mother. There is a mixture of small ice pellets and rain falling right now and of course the instant the rain touches anything - ice.

My son said he thought the roof was coming off the condo. It was actually ice pellets driven by the wind onto the skylights.

I'm definately ready for the change over.

Just looking at the weather map. It shows rain all around the mountain with a small white spot on the mountain showing snow. Hope it doesn't just end up being an ice storm. I"m going to go sacrifice a Bass to the snow gods to help! Geez the things I do for u guys.

It started officially raining with small ice pellets mixed in around 8:15pm this evening. As of now the rain has let up, but it is definitely freezing on contact with anything it touches.

Heh Skier..I'm sorry but i didn't even CK out that thread... I wouldn't have started another thread about the weather if I had CKed that one out..My Bad...What Wierds me out a little is the fact that it has been coming down pretty good in Davis at around 3100' but at Pointy Knob a little south & higher up at 3800' the ground is still bare??!! Course the wind is blowing everything off but you should still see a little white!

It is here at Timberline. Sorry I haven't checked back. It's been snowing for about an hour. I would say about 1/2 - 1 inch has fallen so far.

BRING IT ON!!!

Hmmm...I thought this meant you didn't want to look up while you were belaying Crunchy, so you wouldn't have to take in that particular view.

Since I have off Monday and Tuesday, I was thinking about firing up the 4X4 and trying to get up to Timberline tonight, but if they don't open from the top of the mountain tomorrow it wouldn't be worth it. Anyone know if the midstation is still as high as you can go, or is the top of the mountain open?

Midstation was as high as you could go today. I hear the guns now, but that doesn't mean they'll open anything else. White Lightning looked like it took a really hard hit last week. We've got 3 or 4 inches now. It's hard to tell with that wind blowing the way it is. I'm going to hit the road here shortly. Hopefully all the flatlanders have gotten to where they need to be.... ;\)

Snowshoe: Been here since Friday evening when I came from Boston in the heels of a 10 inch snowfall there on Thurs evening. Wicked impressive storm... Then got to the Shoe. Conditions Friday were... oh well, OK. Icy spots, substantially degraded since last weekend. However, the snowmakers and groomers made the best of it. Sat was icy but better. Then it started with freezing rain, the temp went up to 37F and everything iced up... Changed to snow on Sunday early AM, then it became heavy snow. Really heavy. And blizzard conditions with winds gusting up to 50MPH. The slopes on the main face were progressively closed on account of the wind. Still snowing now at 1949 hours. The wind had blown most of the snow from the topside, revealing a sheet of ice. But the guns keep on blowing. If they groom early in the AM, and the winds die down, it will be a wicked great day at the Shoe on Monday. Plan to ski half day and then head back to DC... Will see how New England skiing is over the holidays when I get back home to family.

Well it was a Whiteout event because of the wind not because of an Epic Dump.....By noon today the snowfall totals should be 4 or 5 for beech mt,NC (5500')..10 for Snowshoe (4800') 8 for Canaan Vly (3700') & 6 for Laurel Summit (3000'?)....& of course my predict was once again Perfect for MPC...coming in at 1 foot!..(Smiley cool face)....This has been your Morn Alpp Snow report!...Anybody know what Blue knob got?

Ibotta, your description of the shoe brings back some not too fond memories \:\( of my days as a weekend warrior there. Try teaching a lesson in those conditions... couldn't believe people would want a lesson in those conditions...

No nothing like that. The main culprit was ..... laundry.

I know. What can I say? I'm old. But on the other hand, I've never met a storm my truck couldn't handle so I'm macho too.. right? RIGHT!?!?!?!

Anyway, we went Harman to Seneca. The roads were covered and the wind whipped it up quite a bit. All of 32 and 33 were snow covered. It became better as we got into Pendleton county and disappeared completely a few miles into Grant.

Just got back from Wisp. I must say that they missed out on this storm (although they were creating their own storm). Although almost everything was blown really bad, I didn't see any more than 4 inches anywhere on the mountain...Will post a few pics and write a little bit later
