Massanutten's snow report today states that skiing will not reopen Thursday January 18 because of a pipe break. Anyone have any first-hand information about where the problem occurred and how severe it's likely to be?

They promise an update at 3pm Thursday for "possible Friday hours." Sorry to hear the bad news, and I hope they can fix it quickly.

Fortunately, Massanutten has lots of cash on hand, so I would think that the pipe break will be fixed ASAP.

From the website:

"Very positive at this time for a Saturday opening. Thank you for your patience"

That's good news, Clay! I'm bringing a youth group there Saturday and would rather not spend the day at the waterpark...not a winter day, anyway.

Hope Massanutten gets more blues and blacks open in the next week.

Me too. I have a voucher for four (4) free lift tickets and would love to get up there ASAP!

Here's Massanutten's update from 2:15 p.m. Friday Jan. 19:

"Massanutten will begin making snow this afternoon and will be open Saturday Jan. 20th at 9am and ski till 10 pm. Early season rates through Sunday Jan 21st. Regular season rates starting Monday Jan 22nd. Tube 9a.m.-10 p.m."

Among the new (but as yet unopened) trails for which they report snowmaking are Upper Rebel Yell and Diamond Jim.

Goood news!
