Interior British Columbia has long been known for incredible heliski opportunities due to monster verticals and copious snowfall. Nearby lift served destinations were slower to develop. Remoteness, cost, or lack of "resort" amenities put this region out of bounds for many from the Lower 48. That has changed in recent years with the emergence of ski areas such as Panorama, Fernie, Sun Peaks, and gigantic Whistler/Blackcomb closer to the Pacific coast. No Interior British Columbia ski area, however, has generated more "buzz" among experts than Kicking Horse near the town of Golden. Seen as the next Jackson Hole in the making, Kicking Horse has an 8000 foot summit and 4130 feet of vertical, with plans calling for the development of a total of 4000 skiable acres of challenging and scenic terrain by 2010.
Check out these two gorgeous panoramic shots, be sure to click on "view full size".

I just hope it doesn't all slide like it did in 2001, leaving bare slopes below Terminator Ridge and stumps below Eagle's Nest.

Have pix, somewhere on Kodachrome, will see 'bout digging those up. Might even have one of the access road when it was still mud only and ate Civics for afternoon snacks.
