What’s New for 2006: Wintergreen Resort

A brand new beginner area will debut at Virginia’s Wintergreen Resort this season, featuring new beginner-friendly conveyor lifts and terrain designed for learning. The new beginner area will be located on Discovery Ridge, and the children’s learning area at The Treehouse will also be enhanced.

Wintergreen has also enhanced its York snowmaking system, adding 10 new guns to the advanced Highlands slopes, and two new guns to the new learning area. Last winter, DCSki’s Jim Kenney reported on the power of Wintergreen’s 100% computersized snowmaking system in a Firsthand Report. Kenney noted that over 300 tower-mounted guns are controlled by a computer system that makes continuous adjustments as temperature and humidity changes over the mountain. During his visit, he marveled at the system’s ability to transform rain-drenched, slushy slopes into relatively dry powder in less than 12 hours.

Recognizing the growing appeal of terrain parks, Wintergreen also plans to help newcomer freeriders ease into tricks through the addition of new beginner features and smaller tabletops. The rental shop has also been refreshed with new HEAD rental equipment.

Wintergreen is targeting November 25, 2006 as a tentative opening date.
