The Columbia Ski Club will be sponsoring a showing of Warren Miller’s 48th feature-length film, “Snowriders 2.” This 90-minute film will be shown in Columbia at Long Reach High School on Saturday, November 22, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Maryland Special Olympics.

Each year, Warren Miller awes skiers and snowboarders by producing a spell-binding movie showing the excitement of skiing. These movies, shown across the United States, mark the official beginning of the ski season for thousands of people.

This year’s 90-minute film features kayacking through the snow at 50 miles per hour, windsurfing on fresh powder in Alaska, heli-skiing with disabled skiers, and skiers outpacing an oncoming avalanche. (Don’t try this at home.)

The film, with an engaging soundtrack, includes former member of the U.S. Olympic ski team Bill Hudson, former Swiss National Ski Team member Annick Chappot, World Snowboard champion Jeremy Jones, and brother/sister snowboarders Jorli and Maelle Reiker.

Scott Kauf, a five-time World Mogul champion, demonstrates his skill in Winter Park, Colorado, while former U.S. Freestyle member Ellen Sheilds shreds through the trees at Killington, Vermont. Extreme skier Suzanne Sawyer shows off for the camera by gliding through powder in Snowbird, Utah, while World Ski Champions Chris Davenport and Dave Swanvich experience “total freedom in every dimension” in Denali, Alaska.

Warren Miller’s camera crews spent eight months traveling hundreds of thousands of miles while shooting footage for Snowriders 2.

In addition to showing Snowriders 2, the Columbia Ski Club will have a ski fashion show and reward lucky movie-goers with door prizes. Tickets for adults are $8 in advance or $10 at the door; kid tickets (4-12) are $4 in advance or $5 at the door.

Long Reach High School is located at 6101 Old Dobbin Lane in Columbia, Maryland. For more information, call the Columbia Ski Club at (410) 730-SNOW or (301) 498-7353, or visit their Web page at the address given below.
