Mountain bikers will convene this weekend at West Virginia’s Canaan Valley Resort to participate in the “Tour of Canaan” mountain bike race. The race, which will be held Sunday, September 12, is sanctioned by the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA).

“Canaan Valley offers some of the most beautiful, yet technically difficult, terrain in the east, which makes for a wonderful mountain biking experience,” said John Northeimer, coordinator for the race. “This event is really fun for the whole family. There is a race class geared to everyone’s experience level,” he added.

The registration fee is $25 for WVMBA members, and $30 for non-members. Registration begins on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Registration will be held on the day of the race from 8 a.m. to noon. Top riders will compete for $2,500 worth of prizes, including a three-night getaway package for two at Canaan Valley Resort.

On Saturday, younger racers can participate in the Canaan Kid’s Series Back Hollow 300 Mountain Bike Race. This event, which begins at 4:30 p.m., includes categories for riders of multiple age levels 12 and below. There is no fee for this race.

For more information, contact the resort at (800) 622-4121.
