A permanent mountain bike trail will open at Maryland’s Green Ridge State Forest on Friday, August 7, offering mountain bikers an 11-mile loop of singletrack traveling through scenic rolling hills and valleys. Green Ridge State Forest is located in Allegany County, approximately 22 miles east of Cumberland. Green Ridge features 43,000 acres of forest offering a host of outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, hiking, and camping.
The new trail, which was developed with help from the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Green Ridge Boys Camp, is moderately challenging in elevation changes but offers minimal technical challenges. Most riders are expected to complete the entire trail in 2.5 - 3 hours. The trail offers several “easy out” options, so riders needn’t ride the entire 11-mile loop.
To celebrate the launch of the new trail, Green Ridge State Forest will host a “Mountain Bike Weekend” from August 8-9, offering activities centered around the new trail.
