Additional Resorts Set to Open

Another round of Mid-Atlantic ski resorts is set to open for the winter season beginning on Friday, December 15, 2023. Pennsylvania’s Seven Springs Resort will be open from December 15-17. In Maryland, Wisp Resort will also begin its season on Friday, December 15, along with Virginia’s Wintergreen Resort. In West Virginia, Canaan Valley Resort will open on Saturday, December 16.

Thanks to recent snowmaking, Seven Springs anticipates having Wagner, Fawn Lane, Phillip’s Run, Cortina Trail, Lower Stowe, Upper Lost Boy, Arctic Blast and Santa’s Beard (with no features), The Alley (with some features), and the Beginner Bowl available for opening weekend. The Polar Bear Express, Cortina, and North Face lifts are anticipated to be running, along with the Beginner Bowl carpet.

Opening weekend hours of operation at Seven Springs will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The resort will provide complimentary hot chocolate, cookies, and Nature Valley granola bars on Opening Day, while supplies last. Seven Springs plans to close midweek from December 18-21 before re-opening again December 22.

Also in Pennsylvania, Big Boulder will join its already-open sister resort Jack Frost when it begins its resort on Friday, September 15. Anticipating opening weekend terrain includes Edelweiss, Tannenbaum, Little Boulder, Carbon Way, Coal Chute, Merry Widow, and the Ski School Beginner Area. The Harmony and Blue Heron lifts are expected to be running.Wisp Resort plans to open with seven trails and a terrain park including Squirrel Cage, Sunset Blvd., Happy Camper, Possum, Grouse Way, Boulder Run, and the Central Park Terrain Park. Wisp has been making snow and benefited from some recent natural snow, totaling 11.5” so far this season. Wisp’s opening weekend hours for skiing and snowboarding will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Virginia’s Wintergreen Resort expects to have Upper Dobie, Lower Dobie, Patch, Teaching Area, Upper Cross Trail, and Lower Cross Trail available on its opening day on December 15.

“Winter is coming on strong this year and we’ve already received four inches of natural snow along with good snowmaking temperatures,” said Jay Gamble, General Manager of Wintergreen Resort.

West Virginia’s Canaan Valley Resort is beginning its winter season operations on Saturday, December 16, and expects to have several trails open.
