Opening day was beautiful at Liberty Mountain Resort. Nothing is more fun than being outside enjoying snow sports, acting like a kid, smiling, meeting old friends, and making new ones. The resort opened at 8 a.m. with six trails. The base was 12 inches plus. The park was open with multiple features including Ledge Box, Flat Box, Flat Down Box, Flat Down Rail, Mail Box, T-Rail, and Tabletop.

I arrived at 11 a.m. when the sun was poking through leftover clouds. A sampling of all trails was done over the next three and a half hours. There were no crowds or lift lines all day.
Two runs from the top were open, Dipsy Doodle and Heavenly on the back side of the mountain. The snow was soft but fun. The surface consisted of a combination of wet packed and packed powder. After the sun went down, the temps followed and the surface became faster with no indication of any ice.
If you want less crowds, a great place to learn skiing or snowboarding, now is the time to go before December 21. Liberty Mountain Resort has a $10 class lesson special and the award winning First Class Ski / Board package for $29. You never know until you try. The folks at Liberty Mountain Resort can help you get started.
