I am not sure that new articles by DCSki columnists are that obvious to DCSkiers after logging in to the new website.  Jim Kenny recently wrote a wonderful article "Sea and Ski" that is in the NEWSROOM SECTION of DCSki.com.  Here is my comment on the article:  The Colonel

Jim,

“SEA AND SKI”, wonderful article and pictures!

I can quickly think of three other areas, one local and two in Quebec, Canada that fit the criteria you established.

LOCAL:  The basin area at Snowshoe has Shavers Lake at the bottom, fully viewable from the top of some of the trails and lifts.  This is especially true of the Ballhooter trail and lift, a spectacular view of the lake surrounded by mountains on all sides.

CANADA:

  1. Quebec Province has Owls Head ski area just north of Vermont based Jay Peak.  There is large Lake Memphremagog, to skier’s right when skiing down to the base area.
  2. And around Quebec City, in addition to the Le Massif area you mentioned, there is the closer in large Mount Sainte Anne ski area with over 2000+ feet of vertical facing the St. Lawrence River as it necks down toward Quebec City.

Speaking of Quebec City, this is a fantastic place to take a ski vacation/trip, especially during “Carnaval de Quebec” or “Winter Carnival”, a multi week cold weather celebration similar to Mardi Gras (in 2014:  1/31-2/16).  With good skiing just a short drive or bus trip from the city center (Stoneham, Mt.St. Anne, La Massif) French and English speaking Quebec City is truly unique here in North America.  The extensive old part of the city within the city walls is very reminiscent of a European city.  And “Winter Carnival” (ruled over by King Bonhommen) with parades, full size Ice Palace, dog sled races in snow covered streets, “canoe” races on and around the ice flows in the St. Lawrence, outdoor ice rinks, carnival rides, outdoor winter playground with activities for all ages, snow sculptures, etc. is a wonderful experience for skiers and non-skiers alike.  The food is remarkable and access to Quebec is readily available by plane.  Before booking your trip be sure to go to the official website to see when the events you might want to visit are scheduled”¦the Carnival sort of starts out slow, and picks up the last two weekends and the week in between.  Here is the website:  http://carnaval.qc.ca/en/   .  Of course the price of accommodations goes up as the final days approach!  There are city hotel ski packages available throughout the winter.

I respectfully suggest that HOME be at the top of every page.  Right now the top line is, news, profiles, community, about.  Home is lower with smaller font.  What at is most important?

FWIW I find menu driven stuff very difficult, whether it be the web, phones, TV remotes, whatever.  My kids and grandkids seem to have an intuitive understanding of it.  I have an intuitive non-understanding.

Amen, Denis.  Especially true when Scott fixes site so users do not have to log in each time visited.

meh - most designs now don't have a  HOME nav item - it is generally understood when you click on the header masthead (the "logo" at the top of the page) that brings up the home page.

If you click the big DCSki logo on the top of any page, that'll immediately take you to DCSki's home page.  (As Crush notes, that's the convention on just about every web site these days.)  That's not obvious at first but once you know the trick, it's a valuable navigation tool.
