So I got new gear and I'm itching to try it out. I know Snowshoe will likely be open Thanksgiving week, but I'm wondering where else in driving distance could I go to make some turns.

Unfortunately my wife doesn't ski, so can't do any real trips away during the holiday.

I'm planning on skiing Roundtop on the day after Thanksgiving.

Problem with Catskills is it is too far for a day trip and Meph indicates that a real "trip" was not possible.
If the winter turns out to be really cold and snowy early, then any high snowmaking local resorts like Wintergreen, etc. might work if enough slopes are open to handle crowds. And all Mehp really wants to do is feel the new boards under his feet!

Fewer open slopes usually means less crowds at Liberty/Whitetail/Roundtop. I'm hoping for one run top to bottom, Minuteman.

My wife actually said she'd be open to me taking a couple day trip without her over Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure I would want to do that by myself. DCski Thanksgiving roadtrip anyone? smile

Seriously though, if one of the local places like Roundtop has a top to bottom trail open I'd be okay with that. I could do something as far away as the Poconos if they have a couple of trails open.

We will be in the Boston area for Thanksgiving with my wife's sister & family. Daughter, son-in-law and grandsons will be there too. Those family members of the male (i.e. crazy) persuasion will climb Mt. Wachusett at 7 AM and ski down. A small group of north country friends will also be there and after skiing we will have breakfast beers and tell lies in the parking lot before going to our respective Thanksgiving dinners. We've been doing this for about 10 yrs. now. Wachusett always opens for the season on Black Fri. and they will have made lots of snow to go on top of last weeks big storm. But it's reserved for us on Turkey Day morning. We will get first tracks.
