Max grew up in Cleveland, and later was a Professor of Forestry at Penn State. He founded the Cornell University ski club, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone Resort, and the PSIA. He died last Friday, two days short of his 99th birthday.
They don't make 'em like that anymore.

It's a bit of a revelation that the pioneers of modern skiing were very much with us during our own formative skiing years. With each new obituary we are reminded of that and of the debt of gratitude we owe to those who took the risks to establish our sport.
RIP Max and special thanks to skiing's greatest generation.

The people of Summit County, Colorado got together yesterday to remember Max.
