Evidently Summer has come to a halt in parts of Europe..Snow has been reported since mid August & now the Snow levels are dropping down as low as 3500' but most of the heavier powder type has been high up on the Glaciers where they are still actively skiing.
Arctic ice has rebounded 2 days in a row and even though it is still to early to celebrate, the news does hold some promise of a strong refreeze with some good cold being generated for us Norskies this coming Winter!

There has been some Early Snow reported by yours truly up in Russia also but all we ever hear about are the Heat waves in the Main Stream press..

It's not unusual to get early season big dumps in the Alps.

The last paragraph of the article refers to the Tux area of Austria (Hintertux -- just up mountain from Mayerhofen).
I've skied Hintertux in foot deep powder as early as mid October.

Hintertux is Austria's highest peak and has some great summer skiing - at least 2000 feet of vert during summers. I haven't checked the winter stats, but it's probably somewhere around 5,000+ feet of vert.

Hintertux can also be plagued by severe early season fog that brings 0/0 visibility.
