It has been a fun filled weekend with good friends. I was planning to head back to Alta tomorrow morning early but I have changed the plan. My friend informed me last night that we would be having some new house guests. It seems that this event;

is taking place here and a call went out from the organizers for Mammoth Lakes folks who would be willing to lodge some of the attendees. So, at our house we now have Peter from Switzerland, Borut, Slovenia's only PhD ski historian, and Nils Larson, the producer of my favorite ski videos; http://www.freeheels.com/
My buddy Chip at Whitegrass has told me many times that I simply must meet Nils and so last night I did.

The latest Freeheels video is this;

Furthermore the ski history congress is going to have an afternoon of demonstrations tomorrow of historic ski equipment from all over the world. Furthermore Nils has brought a pair of these central Asian Altai skis which I have seen and fondled and he will ski on them. Borut has brought a much shorter pair of traditional Slovenian skis and will ski them.

There are also several pairs of gold camp longboards, ranging in length from 12 to 18 feet that will also be skied.

I am staying to see this.

Cool, sounds like a bunch of neat old relics -- I mean the skis of course wink. Have fun.

Jeremy Davis, founder of the NELSAP website (New England Lost Ski Area Project) is going to be there too. Sounds like a cool week.

Jim,

It did not occur to me to look for Dave McCoy but I would have recognized him and introduced myself had I seen him. I don't know Jeremy Davis but do know his site.

There is also sad news from Mammoth. Andrea Mead Lawrence has passed away.
