For those of you in the Richmond area, Ski Center and 102.1 FM are having a day trip to Wintergreen next Wednesday (Jan 17). Lift pass for the day and round trip bus transportation for $10.21.

Has anyone gone on these before?

One guy from the bus Sun said he didn't mind dodging people on the slopes. Said he thought of them as moving moguls.

For the me the problem is not dodging but worrying about someone plowing into my daughter. Of course, that can happen on an empty slope too. Saw a little girl standing in the middle of the top of Dobie get creamed by a young blind skier who didn't follow the instructions from his guide fast enough. Scared the girl quite a bit. Luckily the boy wasn't that big himself.

It's been a couple of weeks, but I thought I'd let everyone know that I paid my ten bucks and rode the bus to Wintergreen (I had the date wrong above. It was Wednesday, but the 14th, not the 17th). I was surprised by the demographics of the turn out. I figured it'd be mostly "kids", but there was a strong "adult" presence, and several members of a Richmond Ski Club.

At times, it felt like I had the whole mountain to myself, even though there was limited terrain. Spent the day on Sunrise and Eagles Swoop. There were virtually no lift lines so I got a ton of runs in, took a nice long lunch break, and called it a day at about 3:30. Had a few Jomo's at the EDGE and got to know some of the fellow bus riders.

Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely do it again.
