I have a friend that is willing to go snowboarding for their first time and they live down in Roanoke. Being that Massanutten and Wintergreen are the two closest resorts, I was wondering which would be better. They are a newbie never having skied or snowboarded before and neither has their kids. I want to go and hang out with them and introduce them to snowsports but I'm curious which resort is better suited towards first timers? Thoughts or advice?

Really a toss-up. Either one will be just fine.

I guess the only really important deciding factor is current snow conditions?

And go on a weekday if you can. They are madhouses on weekends in my opinion, and I would not want to introduce people to the sport under those conditions. On the other hand, I never see more than a few dozen people at Wintergreen on a typical weekday. That would be a perfect time for total newbies.

How old are the kids? Do you plan to spend the night or just do a day trip? As others have said, either place would work. But they are quite different, in my opinion.
