help settle the argument....

I belive their is an airport behind Liberty that is visable from the lift. I atest I have seen gliders flow off of that airport via tugs. I am being told I am crazy.

Has anyone else seen the gliders. If so any one know the name of the airport?

Gliders are towed out of Frederick airport. Would that be too far?

Absolutely can confirm the existence of a small airstrip there. Don't know the name of it though. A couple of gliders were soaring above Liberty when I was there on the 13th.

When I taught there, a fellow instructor flew gliders from that location.

This is the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association field. It was originally part of Charnita, the pre-Liberty development. See this write up:

Airport designation W73. Runway 33/15. 2700 feet in legenth. Altitude 573. :)Online aeronautical maps can be your friend.

I think I mentioned that airport in another thread where there was a question about ski areas with airports (nearby).
