I'm going to Holiday Valley (NY) in the middle of December and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on where to stay (a comfortable bed is the only requirement) that isn't too pricey. Also, any must-go-to eatery/drinkery info in or around Ellicottville would be appreciated.

I have stayed at the Wingate Inn in Ellicottvile, it is fairly new and was relatively inexpensive given its proximity to a ski area and the center of town. I have also stayed at the Inn at Holiday Valley which is right at the base of one of the lifts. That was sadly, in the off-season, so cannot advise on price but it was nice enough. Ellicottville is a nice little town with plenty of eating options...nice little independent joints. Interested to hear what you think.

When my group from Wheeling go up to HV, we have been staying at the Comfort Inn in at Jamestown, it's about 30 miles from HV. It may not be the best place to stay if your wanting the apre-ski atmosphere, but they are cheap(ask for skiers discount)and theres a Bob Evans next door.

BTW, HV picked up 28" of snow yesterday!.

There's also the Telemark right next door to HV and across from a lift. I think rates last year were around $79. Small, seedy, but clean and convenient. Otherwise the Wingate or Edielweiss in E-ville. The rates at HV's hotel are craze.
