Holly cow! Scott made the big time!In this month's Skiing Magazine DCSKI.com is listed as a source on the open / closed ski area map (page 32-33). Very cool. CONGRATS TO SCOTT!!
The map however is all wrong. Here are some errors I saw.
-Hidden Valley MO - listed as closed. It is open
-I know no ski area in Central IN
-None of the Southern MI ski areas are listed
-All of the Western Pa resorts listed as closed but one (7 maybe)
-Wisp missing?
-What ski area was in Southern VA near Mount Rogers?
-Was there a ski area near Charleston WV?
-Missed Nebraski - that just closed in 1999
-Missed Ski Butler in KY that closed in 2000
-A ski area South of DC in Maryland? what was that?
That is just my first take. If anyone has answers or sees other issues pile on!!
Props to Scott though for making a national mag!

Are you speaking of the December 2007 issue? I missed that mention. Did you see the two page article on the cyber culture of the maggots of tgr? There was a mention in there of epicski too.
The Skiing issue I just received yesterday brings back soooo many memories. I mean, WOW!
Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. That magazine has morphed into something decent. Almost close to what Powder was.
My thoughts as well. Powder used to be the hip cool mag but Skiing is making a strong comeback.
There is a ski area relatively close to Charleston, WV. Winterplace Resort is located in Beckley, WV. It's really small and centrally focuses on groups.

On the skiing magazines map there are two dots in southern WV. I assumed the more Southern one is Winterplace. Both are listed as closed.
The map has lots of errors. None of which are Scott's fault. I am sure that it is just for effect rather than "real"
I had no idea Ski Magazine was doing this -- they never contacted me about this and I haven't seen what they did. Any chance someone could scan the pages and e-mail them to me?
Virginia resorts include:
Wintergreen (wintergreenresort.com)
Massanutten (massresort.com)
Bryce (bryceresort.com)
the homestead (thehomestead.com)
The latter two are often overlooked due to their small size.
I would still like to visit, and sad to say i have not.

I've gone grass skiing at Bryce, and enjoyed it. We were planning to head there last Sunday for the day (early season pricing, as opposed to Liberty et al who were charging full price for less than half of the trails to be open). Unfortunately, the storm knocked out power there, and the conditions weren't good.
I called before heading down, and the guy that answered the phone was very candid, and agreed that it probably wasn't worth the trip from Leesburg for the day...
