Anyone to the Valley this weekend?

With the long holiday weekend upcoming, it would be nice to know who was planning on spending summer's last hurrah in the CV area of the WV Apps (alps?).

I'll be there with the family plus Grandma. Mostly planning a mellow time staying close to the house. I'll try and get a couple rides in during the early AM Sunday and Monday. Get my canoe out on Spruce Island Lake in Olde Tline. May even try the "Turtle Slide" at Canaan.

We spent last weekend in the Valley too -I hope the temps drop some so we get our first taste of the early morning Fall nip! Pretty short summer in Canaan this year. It's only been warm the past couple weeks. I was up there several times in July and the early morning temps were consistently in the low 50s and upper 40s. Soon....

where else would I be on a weekend? I'd go mtn biking with ya tgd, but I'd probbaly hold you back, since im still pretty much a noob to it. but ill keep doin laps on middleridge trail till I can blaze through it. plan on doin a little fishin' one day and some hikin in dsods also. Maybe hit the fiddle sat or sunday night to check out some groups that Chip was raving about.

I won't get up to the Alpps until Saturday PM.... gotta do a XC Invitational with the kids I coach in Fredericksburg that AM. But the rest of the weekend is playtime!!!!

Is that the Chancellor Cross Country Invitational at Loriella Park?

Cross Country was my big sport in HS (O'Connell) and college (Maryland) waay back in the day (26:07 over 5.2 miles)

Yes, one and the same. I had a runner shatter and set the new record there two years ago and it is my understanding that several of the top runners in the state are gunning for his record. If the weather cooperates, they just may get it. He was ACC rookie of the year in 07 and will be expected to great things for VT the next three years. The kids I have now are a fun bunch, out of diapers now and ready to make some noise.

I'll be up there. Yeah. Birding should rock. I saw 39 species in 2 hours 3 weeks ago. Given the weather this weekend, it will probably be even better.
