Just looked at the webcam for 7 Springs out of desperation and idle curiosity. It's hard to tell under the orange lights but if I'm not mistaken it looks like there is natural on the ground. I guess I need to wait until tomorrow morning to confirm but damn I'm excited. Talk about feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve.

I noticed the same about 30 min ago. Hopefully temps will continue to drop. We may see some gunage. /crossfingers

Yep looks like a little dusting of natural at the Springs and at Wisp. I think Wisp is shooting for a dec1 opening but I'm not sure. 7 Springs I have no idea about, hopefully they'll get cracking on the guns soon.

Correct me if I am wrong but they need cold weather to make snow The 7 day forecast does not look like there is any snow making weather on the way. The 15 day is a little more promising. 7 Springs typically does not waste water to make snow that is going to melt. When the weather is here they will make snow, they will make it fast and they will make a lot of it. All they need is 5 days and virtually the whole front face will be open and most likely N. Face too.

^^^ what he said. Bottom line if they don't blow tonight they wont have enough cold to get mush of ANYTHING open for turkey day. And their website says they are at 34F right now... I am thinking next weekend is more likely.

The other advantage that 7 Springs has that allows them to wait for optimum conditions is that they have fixed guns on every trail. They do not need to roll out hose and move guns from trail to trail. This allows them to make snow on all trails on the front at one time.

Wisp has a fe fired up right now. Either they are testing or maybe they are banking on getting enough down during this little window that some of it will hold over until they get another opportunity. As for 7 Springs I've seen what they are capable of and when they turn it loose it's pretty effective.

This is the weather:

Temperatures tonight and Tuesday night should allow for snow making. However temperatures will moderate by mid-week and into the weekend.

I definitely see more snow on the ground at the base of the 6 pack than was there yesterday. --Tim

There's no doubt that Snowshoe is going to be the only one up and running but it's good to see the other places getting a start on things. All these are little milestones of the season.

I couldn't agree more - even if 7 Springs was only testing the equipment, there are few things that make my pulse race as much as seeing snow spurt out of those HKD guns.

As I sit here looking at my virgin Mojo 90's for at least 2 more weeks...nothing in the forecast looks real promising for a 12/1 opening either.

TaylorMatt:

Does it seem like a safe bet that the Nutting's will continue the 7 Springs philosophy of delaying opening day until they can get the bulk of the terrain (at least Front side) open?

I find myself wishing that they'd open one or two Front side slopes even if the weather looks marginal (as it does for the next 10 days).

I don't see any reason why they would change the opening day standards. With the snowmaking system we have, why only fire one run when we can just as easily fire the entire front side? Remember, we have fixed guns everywhere, not portable ground units. I'm jonesing as bad as anyone, but having only Wagner open wouldn't do it for me.

Nice. I never thought I'd get something this fat for around here until on a whim, I demo'd these last Spring. Both these and the Nordica Supercharger Ignitions carved really well and were surprisingly agile for their size. I'm stoked to use them.

I feel your pain. I'm going to the inlaws this week who live near Cumberland MD. Wisp is a quick jaunt down 68 and I just wish they had a little bit of snow for me to slide around on. If nothing else it would let me know whether my foray into hot waxing is up to snuff or not.

Matt,

Once you go fat you will NEVER go back. You should have demoed my Bros and you would have purchased them instead. My next purchase is the Fat Bros or some Praxxis powder boards.
