Or just view source in any browser, and look at the date meta tag in the HTML header. Most content frameworks will generate this tag, and this is what GUI displays will show...

Large asteroid hit the earth yesterday, dinosaurs will likely become extinct due to the nuclear winter.

In related news, Mountain Masher still predicts a warmer than average Winter for the Mid-Atlantic...

Seriously, I finally know why or how Snowtime managed to own Whitetail.

When Whitetail first opened up, I thought great, more competition. Perhaps lower lift prices, etc. Now all of the local resorts are own by one company. Not sure if this is a good thing.

OTOH, it is nice to be able to use the Advantage card in every hill but I still think that the ski pass prices are kind of high.

YMMV

Well, Snowtime has managed to clean up some of the mess that the previous owners created at the mountain. While a lot of the mess was not obvious to the untrained eye, the deferred maintenance on the lifts (and more frequent and more serious breakdowns), the damage to the trails from the filled in water bars, the lack of fresh paint, the broken fixtures, the lack of food at the beginning and end of the season, and the lack of gear in the sport shop (because no one would extend credit) where starting to get a little ugly.

The prices may be going up every year, but the mess has been cleaned up, snowmaking capacity has been increased by about 30%, we've got flex tickets, the mountain passport deal for beginners, early season $19 learn to ski and free lesson deals and the advantage card discounts, lodge and rental building expansions, regular turnover of the rental gear, the magic carpet, Starbucks, bigger and more web cams and wireless internet access.

And don't forget lighting in the expert area -- an early (and appreciated) Snow Time enhancement at Whitetail.

If I recall correctly, I thought Whitetail was advertised as the 'Deer Valley of PA' or something like that. I could be very well mistaken (a little older, forgetful but not wiser) but there was promotional writing somewhere that Whitetail was modeled after Deer Valley. Something about the way the lodge was laid out, services, employee attitude, etc.

I had no idea about the maintenance issues. Interesting.

The lodge was inspired by one of the lodges at Deer Valley.

It occurred to me that Laurel would be a good purchase for Snowtime because of Laurel's W. of the Allegheny Front location. It would provide a venue for season passholders to ski when the snow melts (or cannot be made) at the closer in mountains.

Oh, if only Snowtime (or for that matter, anybody) would own/operate Laurel.

Also, Snowtime has a proven track record at successfully operating a resort (Whitetail) that has little or no on-site lodging. That would come in handy at Laurel.

Except laurel face south, ones of the biggest down falls of great ski hill. Personally I want to see the 3 Laurel Mountian resort under one ownership, selfishly that would benefit me the most.

That's okay, Whitetail faces from East to Southeast (east-southeast on average), so Snotime has plenty of experience running mountains with poor exposure. Given Laurel's higher and snowier location, it'd be a blessing in disguise!

OK, since the general consensus is that Snowtime would be a great operator of Laurel Mountain, does anybody out there in DCSki land know anyone from the Snowtime management team and if so, could you please convince them what a great (and potentially profitable) venture it would be...

True, and yes we ARE having a warmer than average Winter. Just check the "heating degree days" index located on the weather page in the Wash Post or the Wash Times. The index indicates a mild Winter (overall), well, thus far anyway.
