I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like T-line might have a few rain showers on sat and sun for the luau, highs in the mid 40's. This weather is making our group of 23 dwindle down to under 15. Might go to under 10 before its all said and done. Im ready for warm weather, but i wish it would wait a few more weekends.

yep. Forecast in the mid-40's for Elkis means lower to mid-30's in Canaan. Could be missing out on 1/2 a foot of snow if you don't go.

I have been to canaan every year this time of year for the past 11 years (except this year) and half the time we have had rain predicted then it starts out as a little rain then all of a sudden it has snowed a foot! Gotta love the WV highlands!

For me it looks like i am going to take advantage of the free lift tickets with a snow blast card at whitetail on saturday and sunday...a little rain wont hamper a FREE day of skiing!!!!!!

I was looking at the actual ski forecast for timberline. I know it is not real accurate but it says 44 for a high and 36 for a low. rain in the evening, which is a good thing because it will be a lot cooler in the evening. hopefully mother nature will grant us one last blast of winter here in wv.

I've been looking at the weather closely as well. The NOAA forecast for Sunday is a bit more encouraging:

Check out this weather station. While it's 32 in Elkins and Davis right now, it's 24 in Canaan. http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KWVCANAA1

The difference is usually greater. Be careful when you see a forecast that says it's for Canaan. Most are for Elkins and don't properly account for Canaans climate difference.

Same situation on temperature applies for Snowshoe. Elkins is at 2000 ft while Snowshoe is close to 5000. So for difference in altitude from Elkins subtract approx 3.5F for each 1000 feet. Example: if temperature at Elkins is 35F, the temperature at SS would be around 25F; enough to turn rain into snow!

I agree with the temp/ snow rain difference. Remember last April's big one on closing day? Once out of the valley it was pretty much just wet and a lot warmer. Since this moisture is arriving from the west, elevation will have a lot to do in determining white or wet. Pray that there is no inversion which tends to negate the elevation factor.

I am at Timberline now. I think this was one of the best weekends I've been up here. The rain held off till sunday and the temps are in the low 30s today. It was snowing a litle and it was a tad bit icy but the lack of crowds today made even today a blast! The fear of rain kept people away and all the diehards benefitted!
