I haven't been on this or any other form much in recent years partly due to my responsibilities with the Snow Sports Museum of West Virginia. Our upcoming exhibit topic is the "lost and existing" ski areas of the mountaineer state. We've been collecting a lot but still need a lot of the normal stuff like lift tickets, brochures, pictures, etc...
Check out our web page at snowsportsmuseumwv.org and you'll see a list of over 30 lost, found (existing) areas and some that we have recently discovered. We will not list them unless they have been verified to have either been proposed, planned, or skied. We need your help to improve our exhibits if you have any artifacts you would lend us. We will make copies of anything original and return them unless you wish to donate them to the museum.
We have a good source for Almost Heaven, just waiting to get things from the original partners of that venture. We have a good stash of Tory Mountain memorabilia, and as much as there is with Job Knob. If you have anything associated with Alpine Lake, Gregg Knob, Chestnut Ridge, Coonskin, Bald Knob (near Beckley),Weiss Knob, or any other lost areas, we'd love to exhibit them. We are also looking for any skiing pictures from the state as well as old films (home movies). We have an excellent collection of Snowshoe stuff and of course anything in the valley.
Our plan is to assemble the exhibit in our rented space her on Appalachian Highway across from the old Big Johns. I hope we can have it ready by mid December or earlier if possible. We are also taking nominations for the West Virginia Snow Sports Hall of Fame through December 1st. More info on that on our web site.
Finally, we welcome any snow sports enthusiast to join us as a member which supports the work of the museum in preserving the history of snow sports in West Virginia. Memberships begin at 50/ individual and run all the way up to charter membership at $1000 or more. We are in the process of finding a permanent home in Davis or Canaan Valley. I encourage anyone to join us. See our web page for details or to join.
