With today’s warm temperatures, it’s hard to believe snow was falling just a couple days ago. But that may have been winter’s final encore. Temperatures at local resorts climbed well above 50 this afternoon, starting the inevitable thaw. Low temperatures will continue to dip down around freezing at night, but high temperatures are beginning their springtime ascent. This means that “springlike” surface conditions are on their way.
Resorts at higher elevations aren’t ready to break out the lawn mowers yet, though. Weekend temperatures in West Virginia will be ideal for skiing, with lows in the 20’s and highs barely breaking 40.
Despite the sudden warming trend, all local resorts have healthy bases and most should make it to the end of March. In fact, this year resorts are offering some of the best spring skiing conditions in recent memory. With plenty of sunshine, the weekend should be a great time to make a few turns. You’ll find the best snow conditions when the lifts first start running, so the early birds will get the worm.
