Shenandoah Discontinues Big Meadows Reservations

On October 14, the National Park Service terminated its contract with DESTINET, a private contractor that has provided reservation service for national parks across the country for the past few years. This affects Shenandoah National Park’s Big Meadows campground, which required reservations through DESTINET. Shenandoah will be honoring reservations made through DESTINET for the remainder of the fall camping season, but no new reservations are being accepted.

Big Meadows Campground is Shenandoah’s most popular campground, and is booked for Friday, October 17; Saturday, October 18; Friday, October 24; and Saturday, October 25. (These are popular weekends at the park due to Shenandoah’s spectacular fall foliage, which peaks in mid-October.)

Campsites which have not been reserved will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Big Meadows will close for the season on Monday, December 1, and will re-open next spring on April 2, 1998.

If you have questions about a reservation you have made, call (540) 999-3231 and ask to speak with the Big Meadows Campground staff. To cancel an existing reservation, call the national fee coordinator’s office at (202) 208-4048.
