Sugar Mountain has updated its snowmaking system over the summer, replacing the oldest of its four water pumps with a new high-efficiency, variable-speed pump capable of pushing 1,000 gallons of water per minute to the North Carolina resort’s snowmaking guns. Along with the addition of two fully-automated SMI tower snow machines, the resort has increased its snowmaking capacity by 15%. According to the resort, these upgrades are part of continuing efforts to keep its 48-year old snowmaking system up to date.
With these snowmaking enhancements, Sugar Mountain is looking forward to the start of the winter season. The resort is planning its annual SugarFest weekend for December 8-10, 2017. SugarFest will include ski/snowboard demos, live music, snowboard mini-games, food and drinks, fireworks, Olympic Figure Skating Silver Medalist Paul Wylie, and Two-Time Olympian and World Cup Downhill Winner Marco Sullivan.
