Guests at Wintergreen Resort this season will have a new off-slope activity to enjoy. On December 18, 2010, the Virginia resort will open a new neighborhood-style ice skating rink. The family-style rink, which has been named Shamokin Ice, will b e 95 feet long and 45 feet wide. It will be located in the heart of the Mountain Village, and made possible by a 150-ton ice rink chiller.

Wintergreen plans to offer 90-minute sessions on the rink, and will limit each session to 60 ice skaters. Tickets will be priced at $10 per session with rental skates going for $3. Sessions will be available on Fridays between 5-10 pm, Saturdays and holiday Sundays from 1:30-10 pm, Sundays and holiday Mondays from 1:30-8 pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 pm, through March 13, 2011. The rink will also be available for group reservations, skating parties, birthdays, broomball events, and more. For more information on the Shamokin Ice, contact Wintergreen at 434-325-2100.

Ice skating joins traditional winter activities at Wintergreen such as skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Wintergreen plans to offer Women’s Ski and Ride Clinics starting January 21, 2011, as well as a Women’s Weekend with champion extreme skier Alison Gannett from February 18-19, 2011.
