West Virginia’s Canaan Valley Resort plans to open for the 2008-2009 winter season on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 12 noon. To celebrate its opening, free skiing will be provided between noon and 4:30 p.m. Rentals on December 11 will be $20 for skis and $30 for snowboards.

Canaan Valley Resort will formally open for the season with normal operating hours on Friday, December 12 at 8:30 a.m. Throughout opening weekend (December 12-14, 2008), lift ticket prices will be $20 per person for a full day lift ticket. For those renting skis or snowboards, the combined lift ticket and rental cost will be $37 and $47, respectively, between December 12-14. Snow tubing should also open on Friday, December 12.

This marks Canaan Valley Resort’s 37th year in operation, and to celebrate that, the resort will offer $37 nightly lodging between December 11-13.

“A free day of skiing and special room rates makes Canaan Valley the ultimate destination for an affordable winter getaway for the entire family,” said David Bostic, the ski area’s general manager.

Many of our mid-Atlantic ski areas are offering especially attractive early season discounts this year. Gotta love it.
