Sugar Mountain wasn’t the only North Carolina ski area to open on Wednesday. Cataloochee Ski Area also opened two slopes on November 7, 2007 at 1 p.m.
“We expanded our snowmaking lake and the extra water is essential to our snowmaking operation, allowing us to open early in November,” said Chris Bates, Cataloochee’s General Manager. He added that the ski area expects to make snow over the next few days with favorable temperatures.
The two open slopes have an 8-20 inch machine-made base.
In 2006, Cataloochee was also able to open during the first week of November.
