Ice skating will join the menu of activities available at Sugar Mountain Resort this winter, as the North Carolina ski area adds a 10,000 square foot refrigerated, outdoor ice skating rink. Three hundred pairs of rental skates will be available, with 1.75-hour skating sessions available six times daily.

Those preferring to do their winter sliding on snow will find numerous enhancements to snowmaking at Sugar Mountain. The resort has replaced and upgraded six thousand feet of snowmaking pipes. In the Tubing Park, Sugar Mountain has purchased several new snowmaking machines and a dedicated snow cat, which will extend the Tubing Park’s season and keep the runs in top form.

To promote snowshoeing, an excellent wintertime aerobic activity, Sugar Mountain will once again participate in the “National Winter Trails Day” on January 12, 2008, providing visitors the chance to try snowshoeing for free.
