Good skiing today at Blue Knob, temps started in single digits, made it to mid/high teens.  Nice sun, no wind, light crowd.  Excellent man-made corduroy early, then carvable hardpack later.  Alternately skied Stembogan, Deer Run, Jack Rabbit and Mambo Alley from about 945am to 4pm.

It was minus 1 when I drove by covered bridge near Osterburg at 920am, but at the top of the Knob it was about 10 degs warmer due to a nice inversion.

My first run of the day and my first run of the ski season was on Stembogan, nice cord:

then I hit Jack Rabbit

and then Deer Run

I made a few passes through terrain park

summit three way lift criss cross is always a fun sight

they were blowing snow all the way down lower high hopes

later in the day they got the guns going on Expressway under the triple.  I wouldn't be surprise if both High Hopes and Expressway are open by this weekend.

Extrovert has a ways to go with only the 6-8" of natural on it, and I suppose will get some man-made snow love sometime soon if this weather holds.

Enjoyable January ski day on $22.99 senior all day ticket purchased online one day in advance from BK website.  I think I got close to the dollar per run figure.

Appreciate the firsthand report.  I try to follow them on Facebook but it gets away from me.  Glad to see good conditions with pics.

I have some decisions to make this Sunday.

Blue Knob - Price is right and I have Liftopia gift cards

Laurel Mtn - Never been there

Wisp - Friends in the area

Nice report - and now I want to go to Blue Knob again.  My wife isn't a fan but my next solo trip may well be to BK.  The one drawback is that the 2.5 hour drive makes for a longer day than Whitetails (only 70 mins).

The pictures were great.  I guess I should figure out how to move pics from my phone to this site...

Nice report and pics. Lower High Hopes was a favorite of mine the few times I was there - narrow, steep enough to be interesting, and really fun to ski.

Post your pics on facebook, right click them to get the image address, copy it, then paste that address using that little icon above in the tool bar ( to the right of the flag, just above the styles drop down)

Nice trip report, thanks for the great pics!  The cover looks pretty good, glad to see the new owners are blowing snow.  Did you happen to wander over to Stembogan and the bowl, was it open?

Second photo is from Stembogan.  I skied it a bunch.  Very good shape.  Just opened recently.  The bowl part was totally covered and if you dropped in early it was steep, soft and ungroomed for 40 yards:-)

I saw a good crew of about six or seven different guys in two groups working hard on the mtn doing snowmaking on High Hopes and Expressway.  I was impressed.  BK has an eclectic mix of snowmaking equipment, to say the least, and it has to be a challenge in the cold temps.  They had some wands positioned on Extrovert, so maybe it will be next after HH and EW.

The report is making me want to return even more. I only went once, about 6 years ago, but I really liked BK. Do they still have a natural fireplace in one of the lodges? Stembogan was interesting too. Now, if I can just convince someone to head west with me.

The new owners of BK recently purchased a truck load of fan guns. I did not see any of them in operation on your photos. With the great terrain and some good snow making equipment, it can only get better. Look forward to a visit to BK this winter.

Stembogen is such a unique trail for the mid-Atlantic, and I like the resort in general; I wish I could find an excuse to get to BK more often.

The new owners posted to their website that they purchased a truckload of new fan guns. I did not see any of the new guns in your photos. It would seem that they have made a commitment to improve the snow making at BK and help erase the "Iceface" reputation that BK has. I look forward to paying BK a visit to see how the new ownership is improving BK and enjoying the great terrain that is there.

I've always had trouble, too. Let me try the facebook trick...Liberty on Sunday, which wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be:

1/11/18:  Just got back from Blue Knob.  Good ski day.  Just a few brief sprinkles around mid-day, otherwise dry and even some hazy sun at times.  Temps got into the 40s, but it skied colder than that until about 2pm.  Since my visit last week, they now opened Expressway and Lower High Hopes and both skied well.  Snow was softish, whole place skied pretty good.  I skied from 930-4pm, and got in 23 runs on a $21.99 senior lift ticket.  No pics.  Camera batteries dead, oops.  I guess BK and just about the entire East is in for a little "niar" and then a flash freeze, but I guess they can turn on the snowmaking again by Saturday night.
