Felt Like a Pro: ASRA GS/SL Races at Ski Roundtop

February 16, 2009 — Most recreational racers are aware of the NASTAR format available at local resorts. ASRA weekend was held on February 7 and 8, 2009 at Ski Roundtop. The format gives the recreational racer or seasoned racer a chance to experience Olympic Style Racing. The ASRA organization together with the competition services crew at Ski Roundtop, offered a top notch quality venue all weekend.

Saturday, February 7, the format was GS (Giant Slalom). This is not your average NASTAR run. The run times are combined for each event meaning you have to finish both runs for a final score. The race started from the top of Exhibition trail. This is steeper than the usual NASTAR run and offers a few more gates. It is a black diamond run going into a blue diamond.

Sunday, February 8, the format was both GS and SL (Slalom). Each race started from the top of Exhibition trail. The Slalom had over 50 gates.

After racing everyone enjoyed the best conditions in years at Ski Roundtop. Bring the grill and tailgate in the Lot. Tired of lift lines, you can get more runs at Roundtop. Everything is open including the half-pipe and parks. During the weekend I shot a music video.

What’s New for 2008: Ski Roundtop (November 15, 2008)
Ski Roundtop was one of the first ski areas in the region to offer snow tubing, and tubers will notice a big change this winter: a new Tubing Margic Carpet, covered by its own roof. Roundtop has also added new Areco snow towers at strategic places on several trails.
