I'm heading up to Tline this weekend with my son (and the Boy Scouts). As part of the luxurious package deal we got, he gets a beginner lesson. Last year I paid an extra $10-15 to upgrade to a level 3-4 lesson. The lesson ended up being a private 1hr lesson which was great, but I was a little disappointed with the instructor. My Son has been doing the power wedge turn thing for a couple of years, but it's time to get him doing parallel turns.

Can anyone recommend an instructor who will around this weekend for a Level 3-4 lesson?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That would be an easy transition if he's on the right equipment and is old enough to understand the physics of ski design and what he needs to do to break on through to the carved turn. When signing up, talk to either John, Ed or Cary and explain what you want or expect. If he's on a shaped ski, it should happen. T-line has a great bunch of instructors who are capable in doing what you want. If you are a regular to t-line and get up several times a month, consider joining the Canaan-Timberline Race Team. He'd get the training to ski better than you. I speak from experience. My son started kicking my a#@% by the time he was 14 and went on to be an accomplished racer.

By the way, my son was 7 when he first started training with a race team and he was not an aggressive skier....however, his progress was astounding in his first year. He was linking parallel turns down the headwall on cupp and hammering the bumps at the top of knotbumper by late season at the shoe in his first year.

I can second Cary - he gave a one hour private lesson to my daughter. I could really tell the difference in her skiing right after that lesson.

Thanks for the help. I'll check and see if I get Cary.

Can you make a reservations for lessons in advance?

nope - you have to go in person the day of. Normally, there's a limited number of instructors for kids, so they can sell out pretty early. I'm not sure that will be an issue this late in the season, but it is still probably a good idea to get down to the ski school desk to sign him up before the lifts get going at 9AM.
