In other news:

In a late comeback, after an embarassing loss of pre-eminence, whisky pulls even with global warming. A stunning recovery, say pundits.

nice chart.

In beer news, I am thinking Duck Rabbit Brown Ale. The owner is a quality skier as well.

Thanks for the Kirkwood gimme Jim. How about a real summer picture - not too difficult.

Does the blue and red whisky have political overtones?

BTW, just for the record, the photo of the slopeside guzzlers was taken at Timberline.

Pagamony's latest photo: is this from one of your epic Boy Scout trips to Alaska? Wild guess: Mt. Murray, Yukon Territory?

yes, too easy then, I must have forgotten that I posted it. Summertime in Alaska is an epic trip that I highly recommend.

Now, I don't know about the mountain. Just some random rock on the way to Deadhorse, and dead in the middle of the Brooks Range.

You got another one ?

I love lilacs; they remind me of my childhood. They are at their peak now all across the north country, on Rt. 2 from Mt. Washington to Montpelier, VT, which I drove to visit my daughter and family after skiing the snowfields this weekend. The north country lilacs are huge, often bigger than the houses. This is a long settled area but one that has grown little in the past 100 years, indeed it may have shrunk since the logging era. The houses may be run down but the century old lilacs are thriving. Growing up in Boston in the 50s every family had lilacs. I took them for granted, never knowing that one rarely sees them in the south. They always came to peak over Memorial Day. Now, one has to be 200 miles further north to catch them at peak on Memorial Day.

Whitetail deer love lilacs too. I love the smell, you are right they bloom a lot sooner here ours bloomed weeks ago.

The rhododenrons are starting to bloom, at least in my yard, first the white one, then the pink one it is so full. I've two to go, a purple one starting and i can't remember what color the last one is.......
